If You’re Into NFL Football (or just great football photography), You’ve Got to See This Online Magazine

Hail! Magazine, is a new online magazine for Washington Redskins fans, and even if you’re not a Redskins fan (like my assistant Kathy Siler, who redefines what it means to be a Redskins fanatic), you still need to check out this magazine for two reasons:

(1) It’s so incredibly well done, that it looks like an online edition of a full printed magazine. Really great layouts, with a clean, tight design.
(2) The photography is just fantastic. Very “SI” like, with big feature photo spreads that really draw you in to the articles.

If you’ve got two minutes, check out the current edition of Hail! right here.

Congrats to Hail! editor Brian Murphy and the whole team at Hail! magazine. Now, can you do an edition for the Bears and the Bucs? ;-)

  1. Scott,
Thanks for turning me on to Hail. Like Kathy, I am a die-hard Skins fan. You would think that, as big as the Redskin’s PR department is, they would have done a better job of alerting their fandom about this online magazine (which is absolutely FREE!) I just spent some time “thumbing” through the pages and you were spot on about the photography. Brian Murphy, Eric Espada, and the other photogs have done a great job at nailing some amazing shots.

Not only that but the iMirus digital publishing platform is smooth and makes for a great online experience. I also see that they have taken their reader to the mobile market, which means that I will hopefully get to download this to my iPad soon. If I can’t have a winning team on the field, I can at least have one that looks like a winner on my screen.

  2. I also took a look and I have to agree the Photos are excellent.

If your passing back comments to the mag, I didn’t like the sneaky links in the bottom right hand corner that became live when you changing over a page and had your curser in the wrong place. I had a couple of extra tabs opened before I got to grips with it. The margin of error is quite small.

  3. Would be nice to get something like this for the Eagles. Hey Brian, since you are going to Philly anyway, how about a special Eagles Edition? I promise I won’t tell anyone.

In all seriousness, your photos and articles are great and I always enjoy them. You even get me to root for some of the Redskins players on occasion and being an Eagles fan that could be dangerous to my health.

  4. Thanks for the kind words and comments. I’m fortunate to have teamed up with some Great hand picked partners in this project for thier areas of expretise. We are working to push this out on all avenues and this help from Scott and the tweets from Jeff are very appreciated and helpful.

@Jeff we have purchased and are in the process of making an iPhone/iPad app. I go everywherre with my iPad and cant wait for the downloable app we will get from Imirus.

@Michael, yes it can be crazy trying to navigate on the corners and getting tossed a few pages ahead or back when clicking the corners. There are some navigation buttons on the top that work better than clicking the corners.

    Again thanks ~eM

  5. This is a great effort! When you have none other than Peter Lockley behind the lens in most of the images, it’s hard to go wrong. He’s an outstanding shooter and I have been a fan of his since his images began appearing on the pages of the Washington Times years ago. First thing I would do in the morning is check the paper and online to see what he had put up for publish. As a Skins fan and a photographer, subscribing is a no brainer.

  6. This is why I subscribed to TWT! Peter’s Photos, Tom’s writing and Harrison’s design. It’s great to see TL back in print where he belongs and Harry doing sports. Now if we could just get the rest of the ex TWT sports desk writing for Hail, I’d actually be willing to pay the $.50 a day! At least with this one, I don’t have to complain about not getting the late games in my edition.
