NAPP Members Invited To Beta Test Next Version of Adobe Photoshop

fut

Now this is big!

Adobe has recently rolled out a special program to invite some members of NAPP (the National Association of Photoshop Professionals) to become private Beta testers of the next version of Adobe Photoshop, and start working with the future of Photoshop today.

Members who are invited to become Beta testers have to complete a non-disclosure agreement, and agree to abide by Adobe’s testing procedures (this isn’t a public beta, so Adobe is looking for your feedback and testing results).  We, at NAPP, put together a special video on what the requirements are to become an official beta tester, and the link to the video is in the invitation email, should you receive it.

If you’re a NAPP member, keep an eye on your email in-box sometime before Friday, as you may be invited to join the program (thousands of NAPP members around the world are being invited—just not all at one time, because of the large pool of eligible beta testers).

Once you’ve completed the forms and agreements, if you’re accepted into the testing program, Adobe will send you a notification email directly with further instructions, and how to download the software.

Thanks Adobe—we’re excited, and truly honored that you value the feedback and input of NAPP members enough to offer this first-of-its-kind private beta testing opportunity.

  1. Heh….70,000+ NAPP members and it sounds like about 1000 beta testers…your odds of participating are probably 1:70! The forums and portfolio sections will be abuzz! (Great motivation for a membership drive too…or is it only to existing members?)

  2. Wow, all this talk of Beta testing threw me back a few years. I was one of the first beta testers for Xbox Live back in the day. I remember logging on and seeing 20 players….world wide! I also think it was the last time I logged on and had a decent game-minus the obnoxious teenage kid.

I think Photoshop CS5 would now be more my pace.

    1. Testing software gives you an opportunity to kind of get a “sneak peak” at what is coming down the pike…and as an early adopter, you also are getting up to speed on the latest and greatest technologies ahead of the curve…which is always a good thing (don’t you want to be ahead of the game?) :)

  3. I would have gotten very excited about this if I had ever understood Photoshop at more than the most elemental level. I do envy those who do understand and skillfully employee it.

    1. That is not really the case.
The software has not even been announced yet and there is usually a long lag between announcement and shipping.

If you need Photoshop now then waiting till CS5 is released could be a long wait.

  4. Is there any rough timeline for the official launch?

By the way, have you ever seen Adobe’s “Use of the Photoshop trademark” guidelines? They can be found here: https://www.adobe.com/misc/trade.html#section-4

Pretty funny – here’s an example:

“Always capitalize and use trademarks in their correct form.

Correct: The image was enhanced with Adobe® Photoshop® Elements software.
    Incorrect: The image was photoshopped.
    Incorrect: The image was Photoshopped.
Incorrect: The image was Adobe® Photoshopped. “

  5. Me me me me – I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed. I’m great at breaking software and being able to reproduce it and better yet, write a detail description. Of course that degree in Comp Sci helps too.

  6. My mum once tested a washing machine a few months before it was released. Does that count? It was rubbish, by the way.
Lucky people testing CS5 – enjoy (it). I don’t really want it yet. I’m still basking in the glow of being a CS4 owner.

  7. As an ACI I have been using a beta version for a couple of months. Getting NAPP members to help bug test and provide feedback is a great idea. The new version is huge!

  8. I just got an e-mail from NAPP for the invitation. Please note, that even if you apply, Adobe will decide if you are needed. So even then, still no guarantees.

  9. I got the email before I read this blog post and I was stunned. I had to read it several times before it sunk in, then I immediately went online and signed up. I hope I get the next email from Adobe.

  10. Do you know where I can find the old video for the spotlight effect created for the academy award? It used to be on the NAPP site under the “how’d they do that” section.

    Thanks,

  11. Too late to the invite party. Maybe the next beta. I’ve done some betat testing in the past. It’s always great to be one of the first to see the product…especially something like photshop that it used a lot. You have some really nice shots at the top of page.
