I’ll be in Atlanta, Georgia next Friday (May 28th) with my “Photoshop for Digital Photographers” tour, and I want to make sure you’re there, so go snag a seat right now (here’s the link), and spend the day with me learning all the latest new stuff (including the new CS5 stuff for Photographers).
Also, I’ll be coming in to Atlanta on Thursday, so if anybody’s got any ideas on a great place to shoot, or a sporting event I can weasel a media credential for, make sure you let me know and we’ll go a shootin’. Otherwise I’ll be sitting in my hotel room watching How I Met Your Mother and Rules of Engagement. ;-)

just wanted to comment on kelby training ” there are no bad originals with Dan M. ” that class is amazing on color correcting I tried it on some of my most color cast picture and results were great without losing detail or getting noise Just a great class
juan, I agree that is an awesome class. Dan’s postcard classes are great too. I still think he looks older than 38 :) .

It’s always “cooler” here in the N. Ga mountains. Blue Ridge Mountain Photographers would be glad to offer shuttle service 2-hours north of the city for a mountain shoot.
I’ll be there! Still trying to decide whether to drive over on Thursday night. I might.

Scott, Looking forward to attending your class next week and maybe saying hello. The Atlanta Botanical Garden is always a nice shoot and its near Piedmont Park. So if the weather is nice, there you go. But if you’re in town Sat or Sunday, I highly recommend you come down to the GA Renaissance Festival. Lots-o-character frames to be had there.

Eddie Tapp, Kevin Ames, Zack Arias, and Jim DiVitale can give you the the scoop on where to shoot in Atlanta.
If you want to shoot the North Georgia mountains, you definitely want to talk to Richard Smith, retired director of the photography department at North Georgia Technical College. Or speak with Louis Tonsmeire, who has a busy, full-time studio in Cartersville. Louis is now president of PPA. He’s a heck of a nice guy. He’s like Rainman with names and camera exposures. Point to anything and say, “Louis, call it at ISO100.” Louis would say, “That’s about a fiftieth at f/8.” You can check him with a lightmeter and see that he’s as close or closer than your in-camera meter.
I’m really looking forward to your seminar. You’re an awesome instructor and I haven’t seen you in person in at least a couple of years.
It’s hard to believe you’d have the energy to go out and shoot on Thursday. You’re so incredibly busy all the time, I’d think you’d want to chill out for a while. I bet you have new CS5 books on the way, and I doubt they’re writing themselves, so I just wish I had one-one hundredth of your energy.

I REALLY wanted to be at this one, especially since you’re teaching it yourself, but I couldn’t take time off from work. So it looks like I’m going to miss yet another seminar. Hopefully you’ll be back soon though!

I’m leading the Atlanta photowalk for iHeartFaces at the Oakland National Cemetery downtown in early June. I made my location decision based on the great photos from the World Wide Photowalk there last summer: http://worldwidephotowalk.com/atlanta—oakland-cemetery-and-cabbagetown-ga-usa/. I was at one of the ones in Atlantic Station instead of that one (although Atlantic Station is a really cool place, they ordinarily don’t allow photography—there was special permission for the photowalk—so I’m not recommending it while you’re here).
I baked homemade Snickerdoodles for RC and Dave when they were here last. If you have any special requests, I’ll bake you up something, too. :-)
I won’t be able to make Thursday at the Varsity. I will leave the house at about 5am on Friday for the 3 hour trip to Atlanta. I put the NAPP link on my blog about 3 days ago and I’ve already got one person to join up. I should have put it up a long time ago(thats 2 extra months)!!

Ken, there probably is an Atlantic Station MARTA stop. It’s a really neat area, they just don’t like you taking photos there. :-)
My wife and I will be at the Atlanta photowalk on June 5th. I hope the weather holds, because I’m really looking forward to it! :)

Won’t make it to the seminar but there are lots of places to shoot around town depending what you’re looking for.
In the Cobb Galleria area, there’s Marietta Square. I’ve done portrait shoots there and it’s pretty nice for a photowalk.
You may also want to check out the Southern Railroad Museum. A collection of old trains and other vehicles.
As already mentioned, Oakland Cemetery. Lots of history there.
The Atlanta Botanical Gardens. They just opened up a new elevated walkway through the trees that looks pretty nice.
Right next to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is Piedmont Park. Great views of Midtown Atlanta.
Little Five Points is a nice eclectic mix of people and surroundings, not to mention local eateries.
Centennial Olympic Park in Downtown Atlanta has a nice mix with the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coke.
There’s also Stone Mountain. Where I will be with the Atlanta Triathlon Club for our Thursday night (6:15pm) ride. If you’re looking for some sport/action shots, there are plenty of cyclists. I’ve seen another large group that looks like the peloton from one of the grand tours. If you decide on Stone Mountain, let me know. Would love to meet you and say hello.
Too bad your seminar wasn’t a week earlier. We could’ve hung out with Zack Arias and Syl Arena at Zack studio.

If you’re looking for something to shoot between Atlanta and Miami, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival is going on from the 27th to the 30th. Plenty of things going on. It’s one of the biggest Jazz Festivals in the country. Several stages are setup around town with some big names.
Are you going to be in the South again anytime soon? My fiancee and I live in Savannah, Ga and had planned on attending for sometime but unfortunately my time in Iraq got extended and that Friday is my last day till I am done!
I will definitely be there. Most of the people there mentioned all the good spots, Bot Garden, Stone Mountain, Oakland Cemetary. There’s also the zoo- complete with real baby panda. My girlfriend and I got some good shots there a couple of months ago:

I guess it all depends on what you’re looking to shoot. I’m going to an improv comedy show thursday night at Dad’s Garage and I might bring my camera. I’ll let you know Friday if it was worth staying up late for on a school night. Really excited about the class! :)
I pretty much attend all of the seminars when they come to Atlanta. Probably havent missed one in a few years. Glad that you are finally getting to do your thing here for sure and looking forward to the day.
