Photoshop World Update

Here’s a quick update on what’s going on at the upcoming Photoshop World Conference & Expo, coming up March 24-26 in Orlando, Florida:

David Cuerdon joins Instructor Dream Team
One of the most popular instructors on Kelby Training Online, expert photo retoucher and photographer David Cuerdon, is teaching all three days of the expo in the Expo Theater. If you haven’t had a chance to learn from David online, this is a great opportunity to catch him live (where he totally rocks by the way!).

I’m teaching three classes—all of them brand new!
I’ve got all new classes this time around: (1) An all new “Photoshop Down & Dirty Tricks” class, packed with Photoshop special effects, (2) Lightroom Killer Tips (with loads of little-known tricks, workarounds, and time-savers), and (3) Designing with Type for Photographers: a class for photographers on how to make type work with your photography and how to get professional-looking results for everything you design with type. I hope I get to see you in my sessions!

Flights are cheap!
I checked last night, and flights right now are a bargain. For example, round trip from:

  • New York on Delta: $198
  • Boston: $216 on Delta
  • Atlanta: $174 on USAir
  • Charlotte: $154 on AirTran
  • Chicago: $205 on American Airlines
  • London Gatwick: $675 on Delta
  • Frankfurt, Germany $681 on USAir. Sweet!!!!

Stay where we’re staying
The instructors and Photoshop World staff are staying at the Omni Rosen Hotel right next door to the Convention Center, and they’re offering a special $125 rate for Photoshop World attendees. Here’s the link with more details.

There’s a Photoshop World Blog
To keep up with what’s going on, check out the Photoshop World blog (from Nancy Massé and company) because they’ve always got the latest stuff (I have to go there myself to find out what’s new), plus they usually have a contest or giveaway of some sort going on. Here’s the link.

There is no “In/Out Burger in Orlando”
Matt and I are totally disoriented because we don’t know where to go for burgers after Photoshop Midnight Madness. We’re open to ideas.

Free One-on-One Portfolio Reviews
This is one of those “Best Kept Secrets” at Photoshop World, and it’s free for any registered attendee. If you’re going, and you want to seriously take your career to the next level, you’ve got to take advantage of this (here’s the link).

Walt Disney World is right down the street
If you’re thinking of bringing the family with you, for a work/vacation visit, you’ll be happy to know that not only is Walt Disney World nearby, so is Universal Studios and Sea World. Sweet!

Some of the Pre-Conference Workshops are Selling Out Already!
The day before Photoshop World we offer a bunch of intensive pre-conference workshops, including a number of live shoot workshops. Some of these, like the NAPP Safari, have already sold out, and the next one to sell out is David Ziser’s On-Location Wedding Shoot workshop, along with Deke McClelland’s Photoshop Channels & Mask workshop. You can still snag a place at the Concert Photography Live workshop, and the Editing Video with DSLR cameras classes, and the live “Shoot and Edit your own Movie Poster” workshop. Here’s more info.

Catch the Video!
If you’ve never been to Photoshop World, and want to know what it’s all about, just watch this video. It does a better job of capturing the Photoshop World experience than about anything I’ve seen.

  1. I would love to attend an event like this some time … make it part of a regular holiday (vacation). However, what with the flight from the UK and the lumpy admission fee on top, it becomes very expensive. Does any company do all-in deals, like they do with sport or other events?
Otherwise, I’ll start saving for next year!
    Best wishes to all!

  2. Scott,

    If you bring the Photoshop World Tour here in London – I’ll get my band to play for your convention for free. P L E A S E C O M E H E R E – N O W!

By the way – on these seminars – do you require everyone to bring their own computers And if you do – does it need to be a fruit? Don’t make me say the ‘A’ word again :-)

    1. Hi Aaron:
Hey—–I forgot about Five-Guys!!!! I LOVE Five-Guys (the next best thing to In/Out).

Great that’s it—-Five Guys it is!!!! Thanks for the tip! (by the way, if you’re going to Photoshop World, you can join us for our special “Meet Matt at Midnight” Burger Run!

  3. Scott…Here is the Five Guys address near your hotel ….3042 W Sand Lake Rd. I live in Charlotte and my kids drag me to Five Guys (or maybe it’s I drag my kids there) weekly. Do you know what there secret is? They hand patty each and every single burger, that along with fresh cut fries and you have a winner!!

  4. Aaron beat me to it.
Shhhh, don’t tell Scott but truth be told, I prefer Five Guys over In and Out Burger. IOB used to be top burger for me, until I discovered Five Guys (and their fries are awesome). Unfortunately for my arteries, a Five Guys has opened just 2 miles from my house and I can’t seem to stay away.
Like I said though, Scott is very touchy about IOB so its best to just keep this little secret between us :)

  5. There’s a Johnny Rocket’s in Pointe Orlando (Same complex as Maggiano’s). I haven’t been to Johhny Rocket’s, but I’ve heard it’s really good. And there’s a place next to the movie theatre (sorry, don’t remember the name of the theatre or the restaurant) that makes a killer pizza/calzone. I love it when psw comes to me. :)

    1. I live in the area and I’ve been there. Definitely little grease-bomb burgers, and yet, they’re extremely satisfying. Something I learned in culinary school – if you want to add flavor, add fat. Johnny Rocket’s has this lesson covered.

  6. You know, there’s an In & Out in Gainesville, just an hour and a half away. Of course, I haven’t had a burger there since college….many years ago, so this isn’t a personal recommendation. ;)

    1. I don’t think this is a real in n out location. If you check In n Out’s official location list there are ZERO (yes, sad) locations in Florida. Five Guys is the next best option – Heck, I call them the In n Out of the east coast! As for the time, yup that’s an issue.

  7. I agree Five Guy’s is absolutely the best choice but if you’re looking for something different there’s a Fuddruckers down on Lake Buena Vista Dr around Downtown Disney. It looks like there’s no Photoshop World in my future this year (I was thinking about it). I suffered a stroke on December 28th and I’m a little immobile right now. With a little therapy I’ll be back in fray in no time. Saddly no Five Guy’s or Fuddruckers for me right now.

  8. Is there a Steak n Shake nearby. I don’t know anything about Orlando really other then I have been to Disney. But we have them here in Kansas City, they are open all night and usually have good food…especially burgers, shakes and chili.

I SOOOOO wish i could go to Photoshop World but we just can not afford it. I had a great time in Arlington though so it will have to do for awhile. Although Scott, my husband says he is gonna start sending you bills. I came home and told him I wanted a Wacom Intuos4, The Plug in Suite 5 and the monitor calibrator that you talked about. LOL. Well I got the Wacom, so just gonna keep trying. hehe.

  9. “All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go. I’m standing here outside your door…”. The snow has just about done me in, please tell me it’s warm in Orlando?

If Five Guys knew there were 100’s of crazy photogs that would pack the house at midnight, they might stay open late a few nights. By the way, can you walk to the above mentioned locations or do you need a car?

Dennis D., hope you get back on your feet real soon. Good thoughts to you! Kitty :)

    1. There are taxi services that cater to the convention center, heck, they probably even make their bread and butter there, and there are some places you can get away with walking to. If you’re staying at one of the Rosens across from the convention center you probably won’t need a car unless you want to really go site seeing or want to go downtown.

      1. Thanks Trenton! I’m staying at one of those hotels so I’ll skip renting a car. Taxi will work if I go somewhere but PSW sounds so exciting I probably won’t leave. See y’all there! :)

  10. there is a whataburger on John Young Parkway near Sand Lake Road it is a Texas chain and have some of the best burgers and fries, and they make it to order however you like it.
