Love seeing how stuff is made. There’s a similar really good one of how a Canon 400mm L lens is made (and that’s coming from a Nikon user) which is really interesting too.

The chip is made in Utah and the rest in Asia?
The whole control and packaging process is done by Asian people.
Maybe there is a Asian state in the US that I’m not aware of…

No testing of the processed wafer prior to being sent to Asia?
There is nothing to test on a wafer until they are cut and solder to a circuit board. Assembled in Asia by workers that get paid $20/week
Actually, each chip is completely tested while still in wafer form. Packaging, it seems, is an expensive operation and is not to be wasted on bad chips. Chips are tested again after packaging to ensure that the packaging operations were successful.

Ya know what stuck in my head after watching the video? the repetitive tasks, the checking, the packing… That’s my idea of a nightmare. I’m so thankful I’ve been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to pursue photography as an occupation.
My cards feel that bit more special and maybe under priced… but don’t go telling Sandisk ;)
