It’s here!!! Tomorrow in more than 1,100 cities around the world my 4th Annual World Wide Photo Walk kicks off, and by tomorrow night nearly 30,000 photographers around the world will collectively have taken literally millions of photos as part of their local Photo Walks. Just “Wow!
If you haven’t signed up for a walk yet: go here right now and find a walk near you and sign up free! (There are walks planned on both Saturday and Sundy).
If you’re already signed up to walk, here are SEVEN LAST MINUTE PHOTO WALK TIPS to make your day a success:
(1) Walk Leaders: Make Sure You Watch my Leader’s Video
If you’re leading a Photo Walk, go to your Leader’s Dashboard page on the Official Worldwide Photo Walk site and watch my video called my: “Top 10 (or so) Tips for Leading A Successful Photo Walk.” There is some VERY important info in that video, so please make absolutely sure you watch it before your walk.
(2) Get a Group Shot Right at the Beginning
Somebody remember to take a group shot before you head out for your walk (it’ll be much harder to corral everybody after the shoot, so get one right before you head out). Send some to me, and I’ll post ‘em on my blog next week.
(3) This is The Gear I’m Taking on My Photo Walk
I’m walkin’ light again this year. I’m going with a Nikon D3s body with just one lens; the 28-300mm f/3.5 – f/5.6 VR lens. I’ll have my Hoodman Loupe with me; and I’ll be wearing my Rapid Strap camera strap.
(4) Don’t Forget to Wear Really Comfortable Shoes
You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so make sure you wear shoes that make your feet happy.
(5) Charge all your batteries tonight
Don’t forget to charge your camera batteries, clean your lenses (and sensor), and make sure you’ve got an empty memory card and a back-up.
(6) Go read Dave Cross’ “Photo Walk Ideas” article
If you’re looking for some great ideas, give Dave’s great article a quick read. It’ll increase your chances for a killer shot! Here’s the link.
(7) The Most Important Thing Is….That you all stay safe
Look out for each other on the walk. Drink plenty of water beforehand and during the walk. Keep an eye on your gear at all times. Don’t go into scary-looking areas, traipsing down deserted alleys, or anyplace that looks unsavory. Don’t get distracted by shooting—you don’t want to bump into, or trip over, anything. Scott, my walk almost filled up, just a few spots left! We found out there is an International Festival directly in front of my walk. Will make for great shots. I bought up a bunch of parking spots so our walkers would have a parking space. Can’t wait!

But you know, there is some special rules in here, Normally people are not Allowed
to do Photography in Public Places, You should be a member of press or something
like that.
If you want to do a photography like this, you should take permission from the Police :D
and Finally I get it 3 days ago :D, Now all of us are happy :).

They’re calling for temperatures in the low 50’s with high winds, rain, sleet and possibly even some snow in Cleveland this weekend. I loved the new time frame until I saw the weather report.
I think you should reward our walk by booking a flight and putting on a workshop while we shiver. Chances are you won’t need your hoodman, but you might need a hoody.

Scot! Thanks for bringing back memories about Photo Walk.The most interesting thing about Photo Walk is exploring every single dot which can make a picture speaks for itself. Have done this Photo Walk thrice in a row for 3 days with 20 other photographer willing to capture the most outstanding & amazing pictures for their photo album jewel.
I’ve missed out on the previous WWPW’s due to other committments but so looking forward to my first walk tomorrow. Meeting some old & many new friends for an afternoon of good ‘craic’, as we Irish say.
We were all somewhat nervous over here in the UK when the date was moved to October from July but thankfully Mssrs Jollybottom & Dewis have come up trumps with the weather – no 18% grey cloud skies are due over the weekend :-)

I’m having a really busy weekend. Tomorrow, I’m taking the day off to drive South of Dallas to photograph a wedding as a favor to a friend. Then I’m gonna get up early Sunday morning (after only about 4 hours sleep) to drive back to Oklahoma City to be here in time for the walk here. I can’t wait. A very exciting Weekend.

I’m going to do my best Jay Maisel impersonation and take my D700 and 70-300 without hood. ISO 1600, f/8 and 1 stop EV bracketing. That’s as far as my impersonation will go, though, no doubt!
Redondo Beach PW this Sunday is adding people in a flurry… only had about 8 people for the longest time, now up to 17 I believe. Still have room if people are in the area. I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Here is a challenge for my group…only bring a prime lens! I might do that with my 85mm. TGIF and be safe everyone. – Adam™

Thanks to you, your staff and Walk Leaders for all your hard work on this 4th annual PhotoWalk! However, I have to miss this one. I did sign up to do a walk, but last week while taking a photo of Bear Creek Falls in Telluride, CO., I took a miss step and went head of heels down the trail and ended up in a bush! :-) Tripod and Camera ended up okay, but I messed up my right knee. Been hobbling around for a week. So, SAFETY FIRST folks!!! Hope everyone has Great Time! I’ll be think of you!

It’s a pity that I will not be able to take part this year in the “Worldwide Photo Walk”. As usual duties and work.
Can’t wait!!! Had to pull a few strings with the weather but Mother Nature has done us proud her in the UK; on that note though I must remember to protect ‘up top’ as it’s not as dense as it used to be :)

I can’t wait. The weather is looking good in Toledo, OH for Sunday. It has been a terrible week for weather, raining almost everyday. Sunday will put an end to that, all for the World Wide Photo Walk! Have fun everyone.
Well,,,the weather here in Columbus, Oh is nott looking so good for what we had planned. Were meeting at 7:00 A.M. to shhot the sunrise ofer a large lake/Dam and the werther is going to be 60% chance of rain in the A.M so we’ll have to switch gears to deal with what we get. Maybe some macro with raindrops ??/We’ll see,,,have to get creative and make this work.

Ack! Massive pouring rain! How are we supposed to do anything? Our cameras are going to short out!

Hi Scott, for some reason I cannot log into my worldwidephotowalk.com account, and the site seems to be excruciatingly slow. Not having the same problem with other websites, though.
Am concerned because walkers are supposed to be able to upload their contest pics now — but if I’m having trouble logging in, maybe they are too?

Hi, Scott, Montevideo`s PhotoWalk was awesome last saturday! 42 people walking around the Old City, with 4 Police Motorcicles open and closing the group, tons of pictures, chat, new friends and of course some hotdogs and sodas at the end!
