Hey gang, Brad here… Back to my pimpin’ ways after having a go at making whiskey in Tennessee for most of December. Despite promising results early on, it ended up being a failed venture in the end ;) Anyway, lots of good stuff to talk about, so here we go!
Scott’s Gear Page was recently updated to add his latest gear and show some photos as well. He was very surprised to learn that more than 20,000 people visit this page each month, so we wanted to make it more visually appealing and informative. Go have a look!
Scott’s Lightroom 3 Book for Digital Photographers is available in a limited spiral-bound edition, which you can order right here.
Check out this tip from Larry’s Cheap Shots blog on using a music stand bag for photo gear! He also has great kinda sorta tip on maybe possibly avoiding the tripod police ;) Look around at the other posts while you’re there… He’s got tons of great info on getting the most bang for your buck!
There are a couple other pimpy things to talk about, but they deserve their own posts! Have a great Thursday, and come back tomorrow for some cool stuff from Scott :)
Thanks, Brad! We always appreciate our Thursday dose of “pimpiness”!
Brad, it’s only Tennessee whisky if a swig makes your knees buckle!

Make sure you use the “E” for Tennessee whiskey, Scotland is only place tradition allows for Whisky.
I agree, besides, I was thinking of moonshine. :)
Thanks brad, which one of the 2 is better?
Thanks for updating the gear list. Very helpful and much appreciated.
Hey Brad, Scott doesn’t use Photoshop??
Gear list looks great! Thanks for updating it with pictures (and links!). One question…why the one lone Canon body? No lenses are listed for it. Does Scott have to have one so he can wear the red Canon vest at football games?

Hey Brad, I am from Tennessee, and have lived here my entire life. Where in Tennessee are you from?
Wartburg. About 45 minutes away from where I am in the Knoxville area. What part of TN are you in?
I am in Knoxville, Close to the corner of Merchants and Clinton Highway. LOL so you basically know exactly where I am, haha.
Besides the spiral binding, are there any additional benefits to this item since it cost a whole lot more than the Amazon price (under $32) for normal binding even with the NAPP discount?
For those who are interested in trying out Apple’s Aperture, you can now download it as a Mac App from the Apple Mac App store for —- $80!!!

Its a snowboarder’s bag, not a music stand bag.
Why does scott have a Canon 50D and no canon lenses?
Fellow Tennesseean! And right nearby, too. :)
I’ve always wondered, when Scott gets rid of equipment where does he sell it?
He gives it to me. :)
Ken, you must be one of the Chosen Few!

Re: Pimpy
Amazon has the pre-order for Joe McNally’s next book, Stretching Light. Any huge Napp discounts? Its a March publishing date.
Just saw the Elinchrom “Speed” Skyport transmitter on your gear page. I’d love to see one of your blog “reason why I use this” posts about these. B&H description didn’t really hit anything on the head as to what it’s all about. Thanks!
A bit off topic, but…As I am ‘chomping at the bit’ to buy the Nikon D7000, I am trying to decide on lens’. For a telephoto, I am confused. I want to get the same one that Jay
Maisel used in the Kelby Training tutorials, but, I noticed that it did not have DX in the
description. I did find one that is very similar with the DX. Here they are;
Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S VR Nikkor Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR
Cameras (Jay Maisel used this one)
or
Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR
(then I found this one)
The D7000 has a DX sensor. So, I am wondering which is the better choice. They
are in my price range, and about the same price.
Which one would you suggest?
Of course I am looking at a prime/wide angle lens’ as well. If you have any
suggestions, please ‘throw it at me’ ;)
Please forgive me for my ignorance….I have been shooting with Olympus cameras for six years now. I am make the switch!
FYI..bad link on ocean prime
