Pimpy Thursday

Hey gang, Brad here with this week’s news. Lots to cover today, so here we go:

March Madness Sale
This month only, purchase an annual online training subscription to KelbyTraining.com and receive $20 off, plus Scott Kelby’s Professional Portrait Retouching Techniques for Photographers Using Photoshop book as a free bonus (a $39.99 value). This book is not in stores yet!

Photoshop World
While Scott’s new book isn’t available in stores just yet, a limited number will be available next week at Photoshop World! Just swing by the Peachpit Bookstore at the Expo and pick it up. And make sure you get it signed at 10:45 am Friday at the same place!

Even if you’re not planning on attending the conference, you can still get a FREE Expo Pass to take advantage of exclusive discounts from vendors, as well as free bonus classes from people like Frank Doorhof, Dave Black, Jeremy Cowart, and tons more!

And don’t forget that we offer one-day passes so you can pick a day to come and play, er… “research new techniques to enhance your job performance” if you can’t make it for all three days ;)

Epson
Also at the Photoshop World Expo, you can check out some cool stuff from our friends at Epson, including Bert Monroy’s latest creation, Times Square, printed out at full size (300 x 60 inches) on their DisplayTrans Backlight paper.  Dan Steinhardt produced a video of Bert discussing his process for creating this piece.

History of Dano
Speaking of Dan Steinhardt, better known to many as Dano, he was recently featured on Nik Radio, sharing how he got his start in photography and wound up at Epson. Definitely a great listen!

SOLD OUT!
And lastly,
today’s Light It. Shoot It. Retouch It. LIVE! seminar in Boston is SOLD OUT! If you’re in Minneapolis, Indianapolis, or Chicago, tickets are still available, but we’re close to selling out on some of those as well, so register soon!

That’s it for this week.  If you’re in attendance at any of the seminars or Photoshop World over the next couple of weeks, be sure to say hi!

  1. totally off the topic of this post but i have been waiting for weeks now… when is “A DAY WITH JAY MAISEL 2” going to be up on kelbytraining.com i have watched the first one so many times that i actually talk right along with the video. LOLing right now but very impatiently!

    1. Hi Mike:
I’m waiting, too! It’s quite an undertaking, and it’s a very important piece of photography history because it’s about Jay. The editor/director working on it is really excited, and he says it’s akin to working on a documentary, and in his words “To do it right takes time.” It’ll be worth the wait. :)

  2. Hi Brad. I have a question about Scott’s book. Does it teach retouching with only using Photoshop, or does it include Scott’s techniques for using plugins (like Nik software)? I’m sure it’s great either way, but I was just curious.

    1. Hi Trask:
It’s pretty much just Photoshop for the most part. It’s not “retouching effects.” It’s enhancing eyes, eyelashes, fixing hair, sculpting the face, the body, enhancing the lips, softening skin (while retaining texture), and tons of stuff like that. In fact, it has 80+ pages just on the eyes. The whole book is all step-by-step, and sorted by category. It also has my 5-minute, 15-minute, and 30-minute start-to-finish retouches for photographers.

      Hope that helps. :)

  3. Really excited about going to today’s class in Boston! I woke up before my alarm went off! :D Hope Scott brought his mittens…35 degrees and a bit of snow.

    Thanks for the pimpy, Brad!

    –John

  4. This book will be available at the Light It, Shoot It…..tour coming to Indy and Chicago too Right? I remember seeing that NAPP had books for sale there too…or is it only going to be at PSW of which I cannot attend this year :(

    Tom

  5. Question about the Kelby Training offer, does that apply to renewals as well? My subscription is up in June, any way I can take advantage of the offer?

    Thanks,

    Leigh

  6. I’m eagerly awaiting the new book on retouching. I’m not a great fan of overly retouching someones face, but I’d like to learn the techniques to do so, should the need ever arise for me. Only downside is, I can’t have my Kindle edition of the book signed… *sigh*

  7. I would like to echo from Alex’s comment about iPad app. I live in London and most of the time I have to cimmunite in tube (almost 150 min every single day). I would be good to iPad app to go through training.

  8. I just called Kelbly training. I subscribed a month ago for a year AND I had pre-ordered this book on Amazon about 5 months ago (to keep the 10 other Kelby books on my shelf company) and I called to see if they would send me the book and extend this offer to me. The answer: (which was given very politely and professionally) was, if I can paraphrase: NO-WAY-JOSE.

I’ve decided to make some changes in my life.

  9. I went to the seminar in Boston today and it was excellent! Scott was great and the information was on point. Brad did a great job as well…one of the best assistants I have ever seen! LOL…

I am looking forward to the next seminar. Wish I could go to Orlando, but I will see you guys in Vegas!

  10. I pre-ordered PPRT for Photographers… will my copy arrive to coincide with Photoshop World opening ceremonies? Stuck on the west coast but promise to attend when you are in Vegas next time.

    TIA,

    Doug

  11. Hi all,

    Regards
