The new issue of “Light it” magazine (the studio lighting and hot-shoe flash magazine) is here!

It’s issue #11, and the cover story is from the wonderful Nicole Young and its all about shooting food with strobes to create the natural light look.

Above: Here’s this issue’s TOC (page wise, I think it’s our biggest one yet).

Above: Here’s a glimpse at one of the two-page spreads in Nicole’s article on shooting food (look at the progress of the shadow from hard, well defined to soft on the bottom right.

Above: Here’s a look at part of my Lighting Recipe column, which appears in each issue. This time we’re at a boxing/fitness gym doing a promo shoot using on-location flash.

Hey, where’s the Android version?
I thought you guys were working on it? We are. Well, technically the company that writes the App software for our magazine is working on it, but it’s not ready yet. I know a lot of you are very anxious to get your hands on it, and obviously we can’t sell any issues to the Android tablet users until we launch on that platform, but we can’t launch it until it’s ready (the bugs are all worked out and functionality is there). Believe me, as soon as it’s ready, we’ll be screaming it from the rafters.

Above: Our “Behind the Lens” interview and insights come from the one and only Peter Hurley (we have an embedded video interview with Peter, so make sure you check it out.

So, it’s available right now for the iPad so go grab your copy (just $2.99. Cheaper than a cup of coffee) at the App store.

  1. I’m one is patiently waiting for the Android version. I’m sure it will rock as much as the iPad version!

Speaking of rockin’….this year’s nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced yesterday. I’m very happy to see Rush finally got a nomination, but I was not happy to see that Big Electric Cat was once again passed over. Where is the justice???? Do we need to start a write-in campaign????

    ;-)

    Have a great weekend, Scott!

  2. Okay, this is admittedly a little silly, but ever since I watched the demo on Photoshop User TV about how to simulate “glare” on an iPad/iPhone, it’s all I see whenever you post an image of an iPad. It’s becoming a little distracting. I’d love to see future screen shots of Light It magazine – or any other image shown on the iPad – without the glare.
