My Local Walk in London (and being a walker in Bath)

When I woke up Saturday morning in London, I opened the drapes in my hotel room and all I could hear was rain and it was dark gray as far as I could see. When Brad and I got to my walk’s meeting spot, the weather had cleared for what would turn out to be an absolutely beautiful day, with a group of really lovely people.

Above: Here’s the map of my walk route. Well, the starting points and ending points are correct, and several of the red routes are correct at times. I like to think we “modified” the walk rather than hitting an expected dead-end and locked gates that caused us to re-reroute. LOL!

Lunch in London, then off to Bath to join Glyn’s walk
My walk wrapped up at 11:30 am, and after lunch, me, Brad and our dear friend Dave Clayton hopped a train (we literally made the train with just one minute to spare â” we stepped on the train, and it started rolling) to the beautiful town of Bath where we joined our buddy (and Photoshop World instructor) Glyn Dewis who was leading a photo walk there. Here’s a link to a blog post by Glyn about the walk in Bath, and my seminar the day before.

I’ll tell the rest of the story in the captionsâ¦
but I can tell you this  â” we were blessed with wonderful weather, a really interesting modified route, an un-expected visit to a beautiful cathedral, a really fun group of walkers who were up for anything, and a super-yummy wrap-up at Britain’s burger mecca “Bryon Burger.” Just a perfect weekend in one of my favorite places on the planet!

Above: We hit the streets. That’s Brad on the left, and Dave Clayton center making random hand gestures. It was very distracting. ;-)

Above: That’s a pretty random video clip from the walk, taken about the same time as the previous photo (video shot by Brad) and it gives you an idea of what the day was like. I blame Dave Clayton for all of this.

Above: That’s us during our modified route (one of my walkers brought his son along — seen here right side — and he was just the cutest little boy you have ever seen. I imagine I’ll see lots of shots of him submitted for competition).

Above: We walked through a beautiful area of London where most of London’s lawyer’s offices are located. Parts of it looked like it could be a movie set with its timeless architecture.

Above: What would a photo walk be without a nice close-up of Brad’s Beard?

Above: This is our buddy Bryan (who is actually from Chicago and was in London on Business), in his most “I totally belong here” pose.

Above: Waiting for the doors to open at Byron Burger.

Above: And in we go for yummy burgers!

Above: We arrived in Bath and it was a little rainy and overcast until the actual moment the Photo Walk started, and sure enough — the sky cleared and gave us a beautiful day in this historic city (you can see some of our walkers getting shots in this pic).

Above: Glyn picked a gorgeous city for a walk. You can see the gray clouds leaving town as we start our walk along the river.

Above: That’s our good friend, and walk leader Glyn Dewis holding a “mini-Glyn” one of the photo walkers gave him as a gift. More than one walker commented what a great voodoo doll that would make. ;-)

Above: That’s me using a really great, British-made tripod called the “3 Legged Thing” which I picked up while I was over there and fell in love with it. Very cleverly designed, lightweight and yet surprisingly sturdy and stable. Super diggin-it.

Above: When I turned around from my tripod shot, here’s what I see. LOL!

Above: You’ve got to love that hat!! :)

Above: I spend most of my time on the photo walk talking to other walkers and enjoying the scenery (both of which I really love), but I did snap a few shots just for fun.

Well folks, that’s a quick look at my London Photo Walk, and Glyn’s down in Bath. Loads of fun, lots of laughs, and a great time was had by all!

More Group Shots
I’m posting lots more group shots today in a gallery over on my Facebook page (here’s the link), so stop by and check out some of the great pics  folks have been sending in (I love seeing all these group shots — happy people around the world getting together to share something we all love — that just really puts a smile on a face and a song in my heart!).

The walk day may be over, but the contests for prizes have just begun
We have the local competitions for the best walk from your local group, and the big competition for the grand prize and runner up prizes; there’s my annual Honorable Mentions; the People’s Choice Award; and the Leader’s Competition shots as well, so there’s lots of fun still to come (hey, that’s rhymes!).

Cheers and best wishes to everybody who came together to make this a very special day!

Best,

-Scott

P.S. A big thanks to the 350+ photographers who came out the day before the walk to my “Shoot Like a Pro” seminar in London. What a wonderful crowd to present to (in an absolutely amazing, historic venue!). It had been 2-1/2 years since my last seminar in the UK, but I promise it won’t be that long before the next one. 1. Great to see you, Brad and other familiar Kelby crew faces over here again Scott. Thanks for a great seminar on Friday and as you say it was in such a great venue too.
Glad you had a great time whilst over here and thankfully the weather held up for the important moments. And yes 2.5 years is too long – we’ll hold you to that commitment to come back sooner next time ;-)

      1. Next year you should come to Moscow. I think, that here there is a good amount of people, who gonna appreciate that. :)

  2. Thanks for a great couple of days. The Shoot like a Pro seminar on Friday was fantastic and I learnt so much. It was also great to be able to put some of the techniques into practice on Saturday’s photo walk. Thomas had a great time as well and I think you are right -he did have his picture taken a lot! Thanks again, Brian and Thomas

  3. Just an observation: You go to wonderfull places all around the world and you avoid taking pictures of the local citizenry. Yet, when it comes down to Worldwide Photowalk the majority of the pics have interesting people in them. The mountains, bridges, and statues will be there decades from now and on Google images, but the people may not be there the next day. I’d like to see the local hobo walking down the railroad tracks with the dog.
