Announcing My Brand New Book: “Light it, Shoot it, Retouch it”

If you’re at Photoshop World in Vegas, the book is being officially launched by Peachpit Press there and we have a limited number for sale at the official bookstore on the Expo floor.

It’s hitting other bookstores next week (Amazon.com already has the Kindle version available now), and you can preorder the print version from Amazon.com, or Barnes & Noble.com, or pick it up at your local bookstore in just a few days.

  1. Looks like another great book!! You guys keep crankin ’em out!! Thanks so much!!

Have a great time at PSW!! I will try to catch the live stream (keynote)…I am 8+ ahead of EDT…so it might work out since it starts there in the morning.

  2. Is the shoot with the bimmer from BMW’s broschure?

It would have been nice to see the “before-photoshop” image!

    Nice, Scott!

Are you also responsible for the shot on the blue Z4 seen on their web?

  3. Is there an Online version we could buy (other than Kindle) which we can use the Ipad to read it? I’m from Brunei Darussalam (South East Asian) and Amazon does not ship to here. This books looks amazing and I want one (preferrably an Ipad version, just like your Light It Ipad magazine). Thanks.

    1. You could try getting the ebook via Peachpit: http://www.peachpit.com/title/0132790149

They offer an EPUB or PDF version of books which you can then install it either to iBooks or another eReader application such as ‘Stanza’ (free app) on the iPad.

I tend to order my ebooks from them as I prefer the PDF versions being available for me to read either on my iPad / iPhone and PC, rather than being solely limited to my iOS device as with iBooks.

      HTH.

  4. already got it for the kindle, so far i love it! i do wonder why amazon is selling the kindle version for more than the paperback but i just couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. another reader reported some sort of an issue with the graphics, but i would like to point out that kelby does provide a link for sample images so you can surely use those.

    i’m def enjoying the read!

  5. Congratulations, Scott, on climbing yet another rung on your success ladder. Apparently, that ladder is going to stretch to the moon.

I’m going to buy the Kindle edition for our iPad, but what I really want is an autographed spiral-bound Kindle version.

  6. hey is it possible for you to update the kindle version and but bigger version copies of images, it is a bit annoying to see them so pixelated when you zoom in to see the details … if we email you a receipt can we get a full res pdf? or hypothetically if we should somehow stumble upon a pdf copy somewhere since we bought the kindle version … it would be ok to use it right? I really do love the content just wish the images were higher res while i was reading, i understand they want the book to download fast but i’d rather have a long download and be able to look close at the detail of the images.

    1. Hi Phillip: Unfortunately, I don’t have anything to do with the Kindle version at all. It’s either handled by Amazon themselves, or by Peachpit (or both), but I don’t get any input into the layout, design, pricing, features, and so on. Believe me, as an author I want every reader in every format to have the best experience possible, but sadly I don’t get to make that call (or even have a say on it). :(

  7. I’ve already been reading it since Friday with the Books version. I’m very happy with it. Good resource information, great writing, and it adds more perspective on what I learned at the seminar. You did a great job.

    1. Me, too! I’m hoping that the ebook versions will lower in price as soon as the printed copies are in stock. I think they are charging a premium to have it now, as opposed to waiting a week, which some folks are definitely will to pay for, but that’s just my guess.

      1. Wish to have one paper version in my head. Nothing is better then smell of book. For sure its great one, cant wait.

  8. Hi Scott,

Since the post-processing part of this book seems pretty detailed, would you still recommend your Professional Portrait Retouching book to someone who will buy the Light It Shoot It Retouch It book first?

    1. The two are very different books. This book takes a raw photo and takes you through the retouching, including special effects retouching, on just that particular image. The Retouching book, by contrast, has 87 pages just on retouching the eyes, so it covers all the things you might run into when needing to retouch eyes. It’s basically set up to where you turn to the problem area (hair for example), and there’s an entire chapter on just retouching hair. This “Light it” book is more of a beginning to end workflow (kind of like the last chapter of the retouching book). Hope that helps.

  9. The iBook version rocks…nver done that before and will be the only way i do it in the future…bought 2 other iBook versions of matt and RC ‘s that i already own in hard copy…keep em coming. Thanks.

  10. Scott-o,
I’m going to give you a million dollar idea. Write a book that shows macro images of eyes with different real catchlights and then show what the modifier was in a real life shot of the scene.
I try to reverse engineer from eyeballs and I find it so difficult, especially to determine the SIZE of the softbox or the amount of feathering done. If you do this idea, I expect a free signed copy LOL

  11. Hey Scott,

I got the iPad kindle version the other day and have read it through! Looks fantastic and the content is full to overflowing; seriously good job!

Your last Retouching Book kicked the ball out of the park but with this one somehow you’ve managed to take it up to another level.

I think the only complaint your gonna hear is that people can’t get hold of their copies quick enough :)

    Fantastic read…yet again,
    Cheers,
    Glyn

  12. Looks amazing. I’ll have to buy it for sure. I remember all the light it, shoot it, retouch it videos on KT and they helped me a lot. I’ll be attending your seminar in Lansing, can’t wait to see what else you have to teach.

  13. Getting hard to explain to my accountant (wife) as to why kelbytraining shows up so many times in the monthly statement :) Might as well start a book of the month club. Looking forward to reading it soon, it’s on the way!

    Scott

  14. Will there be print copies available at your Portland, OR seminar on the 19th? Are you willing to sign a book if I have a print copy in hand? :)

I just found out that I have a floating holiday to take, and your seminar is the frontrunner for how I spend it.

    Rachel
