Big news: Lightroom 3 is now shipping!!!! (Wild cheers ensue!!!). For people like me, who do 80% of their work in Lightroom, news doesn't get a whole lot bigger than this! Of course, true to form, Adobe snuck an extra feature or two into the final shipping version that wasn't in the free Public Beta, (most notably the new automated Lens Correction feature---a big one on the wish list of many Lightroom users). We've updated our Lightroom 3 Learning Center with more details about the update, loads of videos and interviews, plus Matt Kloskowski and I created a clip where we each share our 5 favorite Lightroom 3 features, and why they're our favorites. You can visit NAPP's Free Lightroom 3 Learning Center right here. A big high-five to Product Manager Tom Hogarty, to Adobe brilliant engineers, and to the entire Lightroom Team for…

These things are awesome! They're called "Rogue FlashBenders" and they help you control and shape the light from your off-camera flash. Of course this isn't the first product to do this (I've been using the Honl Light Shaping tools for a few years, and liked them a lot), but these new FlashBenders (from Expo Imaging---the people who bring us ExpoDisc) have two big advantages over everything else I've used: (1) They're all one piece, so there's nothing separate to attach to your flash head, which means that there's less to pack, and less to lose, and that means less hassle. (2) There is some kind of wire, or bendy thingies (a technical term), inside them that let you easily mold and shape them any way you want so they go from snoot to bounce flash to gobo in two seconds flat. They just officially…

A big congrats go out to my buddies RC Concepcion and my Photoshop User TV Co-Host Dave Cross as they've both been honored by lighting company FJ Westcott with inclusion into their "Top Endorsed Pros" program. (The image at top is from Westcott's Top Pros site, featuring the work of some of the photographers already in the program). Click on the image to jump there to see some of their online galleries (or just click here). Here's how the folks at Westcott describe the program: The Top Westcott Endorsed Pros was developed for photographic education and inspiration. This elite group is comprised of talented photographers from around the world, each a master of his or her own creative specialty, including fashion, sports, wedding, nature, photojournalism, advertising, portraiture, food and travel photography. Most Top Pros share their photographic and technical expertise with eager audiences of…

The 2nd online class in my three-part series called "Light it, Shoot it, Retouch it" went up live last week at Kelby Training Online, and this one shows how to shoot and retouch a beauty-style headshot like the one you see below left (in-house we call it the "Oil of Olay" look). I show how to create the exact same beauty-style head shot that I took which wound up being featured in FJ Westcott's 2009 lighting catalog (seen below), and you see the entire process from start-to-finish including setting up all the lighting, the shoot itself, and the retouching in Photoshop afterward. I just got incredible feedback from the first one in this series, and I hope you'll give this 2nd one a look now that it's live. Here's a link to the online class.

Do you guys remember when I did a video clip about a light stand that was perfect for wedding photographers because as soon as you lift it up, the legs collapse inward, so sliding it in/out of a church pew was a total no-brainer, and getting in tight places where you normally wouldn't think of putting a light stand? (here's that video clip---if you watch it, it'll all make total sense). Anyway, it was called the Kwik Stand, and a lot of photographers snapped them up, and fell in love with them. Sadly, the company that invented them closed last year (unrelated to the success of the Kwik Stand), but the good news is; another Kwik Stand lover has not only licensed the technology, but has improved upon it and is now offering their version of the stand, called a "Cheetahstand." We just got…

If you're coming out to Photoshop World Las Vegas this week, I'm doing two live demos on the Expo floor that you're invited to check out. NOTE: Both of these are on the Expo floor, and both are during the two days we allow the public onto the show floor, so to get your free Expo Only ticket, click here. Here are the details: Elinchrom BXRI's Live Studio Shoot (at the Bogen Imaging Booth) 2:15 - 3:00 pm, Friday, Oct. 2nd I'll be showing how I use Elinchrom's inexpensive BXRI strobes in the studio, by doing a live shoot on the floor, showing a few of my favorite lighting set-ups, and how the whole thing comes together. Westcott Spiderlite Live Shoot at B&H Photo Theater 11:00 am, Saturday, Oct. 3rd You guys have heard me talk a lot about the Westcott Spiderlite daylight fluorescent…
