> Join me Wednesday Night for a FREE online Webinar called "A Walk in Rome"
I did one of these after my trip to Cuba (called "Connecting with Cuba") and after last year’s Paris Photo Walk with “A Walk in Paris” and they were really well received, so I thought we'd do one about my images and photo book from Paris last week. If you're into travel photography, I've got lots of practical photography and Photoshop tips for you, PLUS a review of the Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-f/6.3 lens for full frame cameras, and I'll be taking your questions and comments live on the air.

What: “A Walk in Rome” Free Photography Webinar

When: This Wednesday at 7:00 pm ET

Plus we'll talking about my Worldwide Photo Walk (I held a local walk in Rome. I've got lots of fun stuff to share and some really helpful photo tips,so I hope you can join me (it's Free) at 7:00 pm ET Wednesday at this link. Also, can you help me spread the word? :) [NOTE: If you can’t make the live broadcast, we’ll start free rebroadcasts the following day].

> A Different Perspective on This Past Week’s Photo Industry Scandals, PLUS How to Not Hate HDR (Well, not as much anyway)
This week’s episode of “The Grid” should be a wild one, as we’re talking about the recent scandals within the photography industry (but we have a different perspective on it), and although we’re not going to be able stop people from doing HDR (and we shouldn’t), maybe we can help them spot the telltale signs of “bad HDR” along with how to avoid it. It all starts with admitting you have a problem. LOL!! ;You do not want to miss this episode, which airs (as always) LIVE every Wednesday at 4:00 pm ET at this link.

> My Shoot Like a Pro Tour is coming to DC
OK, even thought the seminar isn’t this week, I’m giving away two free tickets to the seminar this week, so it kinda counts. Just leave a comment here and you’re entered, and we’ll draw two winners tomorrow. All the details on the seminar are right here.  See you in DC.

OK, it’s a busy week this week. Let’s get to it! (and here’s wishing you a fantastic one!)

(1) My Lightroom 5 Book is in-stock
Most folks who pre-ordered have already received their copies, but now the online bookstores (and brick and mortars) also have it in-stock, and I hope you’ll check it out. Here’s the link to it on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Get your copy today and be one of the “cool kids” (that alone won’t actually do it, but it certainly won’t hurt). ;-)

(2) My Jesus Book is Sold Out Again
It’s sold out again at Amazon, but more copies are already on their way. Now, if you just said to yourself, “Scott wrote a Jesus book?” Here’s a link to the video where I announced it, which explains it all (and who the book is for). It is still available as an ebook for the iPad or iPhone from Apple’s iBooks store, and we’re working on a Kindle version (have been for a while, but we are finally getting close. It’s a long story). Anyway, more print copies are on the way.

(3) Today is the cutoff for the $100 Early Bird Photoshop World Conference discount
I know Brad mentioned that it was today yesterday, but today’s today. Here’s the link if you want to join us in Vegas next month for a career-changing, earth-shaking, technique-learning, fun-loving’ Photoshop love-fest, here’s the link. Sign up today and snag that $100 discount (and get a full 12-months of the full Adobe Creative Cloud for free).

Plus, you’ve always been dying to go — now’s your chance. Airfares to Vegas are cheap, we’ve got a great deal on the hotel (stay where the instructors stay, the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, the home to Photoshop World Vegas), and today you save another $100. Say it with me, “This is the year. I’m going!”

(4) If you missed Brian Smith on “The Grid” you missed a lot!
Brian totally rocked the Grid this week and we’ve gotten a flood of comments on how useful, informative, and just plain great that episode was. The topic was “The secrets of great portraits” and some are calling it one of our best episode ever. You can watch it all right above.

(5) SmugMug gets the “Big Buzz” award of the week
Everybody was raving about SmugMug’s new relaunch this week, and their debut of some seriously beautiful new portfolio layouts, a much-improved back-end, and an all new…well…everything. They totally nailed it, and if you haven’t checked them out this week, jump over there right now and see what all the fuss is about. Congrats to the crew at SmugMug on the hugely successful big launch!

(6) Speedlights vs. Battery Powered Strobes
Really great article in photographer Michael Clark’s latest newsletter on Speedlights vs. Battery Powered Strobes. I always enjoy Michael’s newsletter and he often covers topics you don’t see covered that frequently, which I think is great. This one is an excerpt from his book, and he makes some really great points. Plus, lots of great photos as always. Here’s the PDF edition:

(7) You can now view “Cool Photography Stuff” (my Flipboard magazine) on The Web
I just learned that you don’t have to have a tablet to read the Flipboard 2.0 magazine I curate anymore — you can now read it right in your web browser (and the layouts transfer very well, as seen above). I curate my “Cool Photography Stuff” magazine every day, and it’s free, free, free to subscribe! Here’s the “view on  the web” link: (of course, it’s still available within the free Flipboard App itself as always). So, if you want to stay up on what’s going on daily, check it out.

Well, that’s my seven quick things for this Friday.
I’ve got a really cool review planned that I think will help a lot of folks. Hope you all have a great weekend, and we’ll see you back here on Monday. Cheers, -Scott

(1) Guess who is our in-studio guest on “The Grid” tomorrow?
Oh yeah–#shebang — it’s the man himself — Peter Hurley (wild cheers ensue!). The master of the headshot (see above) is in the house!

Here’s here working on a project with us, and he’s our guest tomorrow at 4:00 pm ET LIVE on the air. We might (I have to confirm with Peter first), do our blind critiques episode (in which case, it would be portraits only), so keep an eye out on my Facebook, G+ or Twitter pages tomorrow for the link to upload your images in case we go that route, but ya never know. Here’s the scoop:

Who: Peter Hurley, live in-studio
What: Tomorrow’s episode of “The Grid” (our weekly photography talk show)
When: 4:00 pm ET (New York Time)
Why: Because we do this every Wednesday at 4:00 PM ET

Join in the fun (and for the occasional crushing of people’s hopes and dreams).

(2) Help me find some place to go (be kind, kids)
My awesome, awesome wifey got me the most amazing birthday present — a photography trip (with my brother Jeff as my shooting buddy) anywhere in the world I want to go (as long as it’s someplace she wouldn’t want to go, so going back to Paris is probably out. LOL!).

My first thought was to go back to Dubai (It’s been like five years since my first visit), but this time I’d head to Abu Dhabi as well (which is a short drive), but now I’m thinking maybe I should go someplace else since I’ve kinda already been there. So, if you’ve got any ideas for really cool shooting locales that aren’t 25+ hours of flying time from Florida, I’m all ears (remember, if you can picture my wifey there with me, it’s probably off the list, so Bora Bora, Fiji, France, Spain, etc. or any place exotic or European is probably out). I’m thinking Moscow could be cool. Maybe Namibia (but my brother makes a frowny face when I mention Namibia). Anyway, I’m open to any cool ideas that won’t take me too far away for too long (five days would be ideal).

(3) My Lightroom 5 Book is Almost Here!
My Lightroom 5 book is on-press (well, it’s been on press for a while so it’s probably off press by now, or any day at the latest), and it’ll be winging it’s way to stores very soon (and by winging I mean just riding in a truck but that doesn’t sound nearly as exciting as winging), and I have reason to believe it will be arriving sooner than the bookstores online have indicated (just a hunch. Wink). Anyway, you can pre-order it right now if you’d like to over at Barnes & Noble, or Amazon, who both have screamin’ deals on it (around $34. Cheap!). Anyway, be the first on your block (heck, be the first on any block), to get your copy by pre-ordering now.

Well, that’s it for today. Hope you all have a great Tuesday and we’ll see you back here tomorrow for Guest Blog Wednesday-a-roonie (and don’t forget The Grid with Peter tomorrow).

(1) Photoshop World Vegas registration is Now Open!
What’s Photoshop Vegas like? Watch that video, and then come join us in September. LOTs of cool new classes, new instructors and new stuff to learn. Here’s the link with details.

(2) Cool new class on Lifestyle photography from Erik Valind
This new class  is getting lots of great feedback (Erik is a really great teacher, and he’s handling a really tough, but really common program and of course, he makes it easy and understandable). Erik explains the class in the video above.

Here’s the link with details on the class. (you can rent the online class for three days for just $9.99, but if you’re already a Kelby Training Online subscriber, of course it’s free).

(3) Thanks to everybody at Henry’s “Exposure Show” in Toronto
Man, what a great show! A big thanks and shoutout to everybody who came out to my Keynote Presentation at the Exposure Show in Toronto last Sunday. Just had such a great time! Really great event from top to bottom. Super diggin’ it!

(4) The New issue of Lightroom Magazine is now available
Issue #5 of our fastest-growing magazine, Lightroom Magazine, is now available on the App Store. There’s a very cool tutorial on portrait retouching in Lightroom, Matt has a great article (and video) on combining images; Rob Sylvan shows you how to use Target Collections (and why they’re so handy), plus a whole lot more. Hope you check it out.

(5) Into Flipboard? Into Photography? Check out my Flipboard magazine “Cool Photography Stuff”
I curate a Flipboard 2.0 magazine called “Cool Photography Stuff” and each day I update it with exactly that. I search a bunch of different online photography resources and when I see something cool, interesting, helpful, or just a really beautiful image, I ‘flip” it into the mag so it’s always very up-to-date (I often update it numerous times a day). Anyway, it’s free, it’s fun, so just search it on Flipboard App (for IOS and Android) When you search, look for a mag from “skelby” — that’s me!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. Don’t forget to join me Thursday at 7:00 pm for our “Beginners Start Here” free Webcast with a ton of photography tips, giveaways and fun stuff to launch our biggest online initiative yet! See you then.
