I am totally psyched to be teaching for Nikon in their booth/theater at the upcoming WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) Conference & Expo in Las Vegas later this month (the Expo part where I'm speaking runs March 11-13th  -- link). I am also honored to speaking alongside some truly amazing photographers, like Cliff Mautner, Jerry Ghionis, Dixie Dixon, and Tamara Lackey among others. (Above: that me on stage in Nikon's booth at Photo Plus Expo -- photo by RC Concepcion).  I'm speaking all three days and my session is called "Shooting it With Just One Light" (the official times are shown below --- click on it for a much larger view) If you're at the show, I hope you'll catch one of my sessions (and if you see me wandering around, make sure you stop me and say "hi"). Above: Another shot of me teaching…

http://youtu.be/z_eT8p-hZTo You've got to watch the video above -- it explains the whole thing, but I've got to tell you --- we are incredibly excited about this. We put a lot of work into making something really unique and really special, but  it's only for 20 very cool, very lucky photographers, and I hope you're one of them. I hope you can join me (and Scott --- watch the video) for one of the coolest workshops ever! I am not kidding! :) Here's the link to sign up - http://kelbytraining.com/hockey P.S. Scott and I will be answering your questions here on the blog, but give me a chance to wake up and at least have a cup of coffee or two! ;-)  This is going to be (wait for it....wait for it....) edit. No, epic!

Whatdayasay we end the year with a free class! We just released this new class on creating your own custom photo books using Lightroom 4, and you can take the class for free as our way of saying "Thanks for an amazing year." Here's how it works: I mentioned here a few weeks back that we now offer some of our classes as downloadable 3-day rentals (just like you'd download a movie rental), and that's the case here, but you'll notice that instead of there being a $9.99 rental fee, the rental button says FREE.  Here's a link to the class, and I hope you find it helpful (photo books are easy to get hooked on --- make one and you'll fall in love). Here's to a 2013 filled with lots of wonderful images (and some beautiful custom books). All my best, -Scott

It's our biggest issue yet, with lots of awesome lighting tutorials; everything from lighting for weddings; tips for shooting with a beauty dish; lighting home interiors; a very cool location shoot that turns an every day scene into a mystical forest; my Lighting Recipes column, the latest gear news and more. It's available now for the iPad on the App store for just $2.99. (By the way: if you download the app (free) you get our launch issue for free as well). What! Still no Android version? OK, I got with my team about all this and here's where it stands. The company that developed our App originally made just a regular ol' IOS app, but when Apple introduced the Newsstand Concept, so we had to retool the entire magazine for Newsstand. So, we're now we're not just converting our ISO app into an…

I know a lot of photographers are struggling with photo composition, and over the past year I've had dozens of people send me emails and comments asking when I was going to do a class on photo composition. I actually had no plans to teach one. Ever. But a few weeks ago, I came up with an idea about teaching photo composition that's radically different from anything I've ever seen on the topic. My first thought was to write a book about it, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the way I plan to teach this, doesn't require a whole book. In fact, it wouldn't even make a good long chapter, because I think I can make people really, finally, and fully "get it" in just about an hour. I think if it's presented like I have imagined…
