  1. I was lucky enough to win a recent DTownTV comment prize and Laurie’s new book was part of it. The book is great, I’m not a big wildlife photographer but now I will give it a try! Thanks, KT

  2. Wow you have got some great stuff going down! The workshop DVD is such a great idea, esp for those like me who don’t live in a town with a great range of training opportunities! Great resource

  3. OMG! I’d love a copy of Laurie Excell’s book. Sounds like the perfect book to have while I plan my holiday to Yellowstone. It’s a long way from Australia, but it’s going to be worth it!

  4. Frank Doorhof: Live In Boston DVD, looking forward to see the DVD. I’ve bought all Frank’s DVD’s and followed many workshops. His instructions are great. Really exellent mix in theory and practice. I’ll expect this DVD will be worth seeing.

  5. Love Frank’s teaching style and would love to win his DVD!

Just started David Ziser’s Composition class and it is great!! I’m one of David’s biggest fans!

I am an official Kelby Training Affiliate, anything I can do to get the word out about Kelby Training I will do. You folks are the best!!!

  6. Wow, I am just floored with how much free stuff KelbyTraining gives away throughout all its channels! Keep it up (and maybe someday I will win something!)

  7. I have to say the Frank has opened my mind and eyes to a different way to approach the way of seeing and taking a photograph. I embrace the idea of a light meter, I just have a hard time being accurate with the measurement and calibration. I’m more of a visual learner than a reader. I wish I could afford to get to Boston to take his class.

  8. Great stuffs, I would love getting Frank’s book, I enjoyed very much his videos on Kelbytraining as yours Scott and all the others, and my wife his pissed off because I spend too much time on Kelbytraining :)

  9. Thanks Brad for all you do for us. Sometimes the person behind the s nee goes unnoticed so thank you. Also your concert photography is really looking great.

  10. Scott,
I always look forward to Free Stuff Thursdays :) Frank is a really fun instructor to learn from. You did a great job getting him over to the states to record some classes for Kelby Training. Another cool thing about Frank, which a lot of people don’t know, is that he’s a fellow guitar player and he’s into Metal, which is cool in my book. I would love to win this DVD!!!

  11. Moose always has cool stuff on his website. I love the cockpit pano’s and would love to learn how to do them. Wildlife photography has always been one of those things that I never get started on, so I would love to get a hold of Laurie’s book. I also run a photo club for middle school kids and would love to see what Frank is teaching so I can help the kids get started on their projects.

  12. Frank and Laurie are two of the best teachers I’ve encountered and learned from in the past ten years when I first picked up an SLR. They’ve both assisted in my growth and understanding of how to use light to create great photos. Thanks to Scott for bringing them into the Kelby training family and photoshop user world.

  13. Great job, Brad ! Frank Doorhof is a great addition to the Kelby Media family. I’ve watched some of his presentations at Kelby Training and would love to win his new DVD.

  14. I would love either one. I had a chance to shoot with Laurie at a DLWS workshop three years ago on San Juan Island, Washington. She is loads of fun and a really great instructor and photographer. (Brad, you were there, too!)

By the way, Brad and Scott, when I went to post this comment, someone elses name and email address were filled in the blanks. I remember when the same thing happened over on Matt’s blog awhile back. Thought you would want to know.)

  15. It’s great to not only see Laurie’s photos, but getting the explanations on how she took them is an incredible help to taking photos. I know it would be a worthwhile book to have. Hint, Hint !

  16. I’d love either one or both would be great. I love learning about photography. I think Kelby training is one of the best places to learn about photography. GREAT JOB.

  17. I’m loving this free Thursday stuff! Winning either the DVD or the book would be awesome! Thanks for all you guys do!!! (p.s. Scott, your India vacation book was wonderful! I love it when your wife takes you on vacation and you share the photos! lol)

  18. Just added Laurie’s Wildlife Photography: From Snapshots to Great Shots to my amazon wishlist, thanks for the recommendation! If I happen to win it, I’ll have to fill that spot with another one from the Kelby media crew or their recommended readings ;-)

  19. Looking forward to yesterday’s Grid episode when its released online!

You guys are so honest & fun…its great!

Hrmm, the DVD or the book? Yes! Both look fantastic.

My radar is now on, hoping you’re bringing the show on the road to Minneapolis sometime this year!

    Thanks!
    Cheers!
    Mike

  20. I would love a copy of Wildlife Photography. We live in the middle of a pasture and see all kinds of critters 365 days a year. Instead of an unfocused mess, I would love to be able to capture the beauty of these animals.

  21. The first time I saw Frank D’s work was on Kelby Training and I enjoyed how he gave simple instruction in his presentation. It was a definite eye opener and a great edition to my favorite videos on the training website.

  22. Ever since seeing Frank at Photoshop world last year in Las Vegas I have been inspired. His images are amazing with what he work with. I would love to be considered for the DVD giveaway which would be a great resource for me as I grow. Thank you and everyone have a GREAT DAY!!!!

  23. A) I would love to win a copy of Frank’s CD!!

and B) I think your comment form might have an issue. It’s auto populated with some other photographers info (on my personal computer that I can confirm hasn’t been used by this photog – Vince Mostajo & his email).

  24. Just a heads up, the “Leave a Reply” box comes up on my computer with other folk’s names until I refresh the page….. which leave the door open for someone (not me ;-) to speak in someone else’s name and info.

You might want to check that out.

  25. Great Pimpy….er, Free Stuff Thursday, Brad! I couldn’t afford to go to Frank’s class in Boston last year (and I only live 25 miles from there). I didn’t know he put out a DVD of the class! Very CAKB!

    –John

  26. I would enjoy reading either or both of those books. Just another heads up on your form here. It is exposing the name and email of someone else when you first load it. You may want someone to fix your code to protect the “NOT PUBLISHED” information.

  27. Scott –

First, The Grid w/ Zack was fun, funny and informative! I always pick up so much. I put down the $200.00 for his One Light set a year ago, really great investment. Of course I’d love to see Zack teach on KT. Something new, as he asked, that’s a tough one as he’s covered so much to date. Why not “A Day with Zack Arias” – it’s worked well with Jay & Joe (awesome) and that real world, in the trenches how’s and why’s are fun and really valuable!

    :-)

Oh yes, I’d also like to enter for Franks’ dvd! His classes on KT, Awesome (but I still don’t own a light meter – ha!)

    Thanks!
    Doug

  28. I enjoy the blogs, grids, grunts, and grinds. Wish i knew to enter for Ricks DV trip, so I’ll enter for Laurie’s wildlife book for my up and coming sister who is an enthusiastic hobbiest and mostly shoots wildlife around her lake. See ya tomorrow on the Grid Live. Jock Goodman

  29. I love free stuff thursdays! Lots of good deals and up to the minute news on newly released books to help with the learning process along with the freebies. Can’t go wrong.
