  1. Hi Scott,

Real quick, sorry to bug ya, had a quick question. And it has nothing to do with this post, but I love your work and trust your opinion. I just purchased an Sb-900. And tonight I went to one of Sandy Puc’s workshops and she talks about only using the Q-flash. What’s you’re opinion…SB-900 vs Quantum Q-flash. Also on the subject of flash…what’s your opinion between Pocket Wizards and the SU-800? Thanks so much! And sorry, I know this is totally random and is throwing your blog off, but I’m dying to know. Thanks! Anyone else’s input would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Ahh..I’m sorry Scott. I’m messing up your comment section. If you could just delete this and the my next comment that would be great. Sorry the website was trying to tell me (on my first post) that I had already posted it which I hadn’t. So I pushed post again, and then there were two. Crazy! Sorry!

      1. Nate, I have 3 800’s and one 900 and I still just ordered a Quantum flash with the Freewire transmitters and battery pack. It has a more powerfull flash and you can take the dome off and use it for an omni directional light. You may want to check out http://www.digitalprotalk.com and David Ziser who always uses the Quantum. You are (wirelessly) limited to manual flash mode with the transmitters. you have to be wired to the flash for itt to work. I use the SU-800 when I’m close to my speedlights and the can recognize the line of sight signal that you must have with the Nikon speedlights. To get that longer distance from camera to flash you need a pocketwizard and then you still do not have itt. Remeber you can only have itt with using either a speedlight as a master or SU-800 as master or built in (pop up) flash as master. Hey, I’m sure Scott hasn’t seen your question yet, don’t be sorry, it’s a good one. Also David Ziser has some great tutorials on http://www.scottkelbytraining.com and he shows you step by step how to use the Quantum. You can also go to Quantums web site for a free cd tutorial. See ya Nate!

  3. Sorry. Still too expensive for ickledot, what with the air fares and all.
In the meantime, can anyone suggest any US driving routes I could do on a holiday, go to a class at the start followed by a photo-blogging drive, for a couple of weeks, say, and then finish with another class, armed with a load of images, near the end? Perhaps there’s an idea – Kelby Photo Blogging Holidays.com!

  4. I would recommend PS World to anyone who uses PS or the Suites and can afford to go. I went for the first time last year in Boston (being that I live in MA) and I was excited, amazed, educated, entertained from the minute I got there. I must have walked around with my mouth open the entire time I walked around the expo floor as well. I had no idea the type of presentations that were being offered there as well.
On top of that, I made a week of it in Boston, getting great rates at the Park Plaza, where as it turned out, Amnesty International was having their big get-together and rally and everybody else was there for the NCAA March Madness basketball regionals.

Wish I was going to Orlando PSW but I’d have to pay my own way as my company won’t contribute. I have CS3 at home but at work I have CS2 and haven’t gotten an upgrade. :-( Will eagerly be looking for the blogs, pics and videos to come and be jealous of everyone there!

How could you not have fun sharing time with people, who like you, are there to sharpen the tools in their toolbox?

  5. Hi Scott. I’m a 24 year old shooter from India and its my dream to visit this conference on day. I’ve learnt tons from your blog, bought your dvd’s and watched photoshopusertv for over two years now, but its a whole different thing to experience these lessons in person. I was planning on going to a Photography school in the US this year, but its too expensive for me and I can barely afford to start my own studio setup. Hope I can save enough money for the flight cost and travel to the expo next time! Wish me luck :)

  6. I *just* bought PS CS4, not an upgrade, my first time using an editing software other than freebies like Picasso. My question is will Photoshop World be too advanced for me right now? I bought a book to help me learn CS4 but doubt I will get far in it before the Workshop. I am thinking that I will be lost throughout most of it since I can barely do *anything* in it yet. Thinking as a beginner, it might be best for me to invest the money in an external flash (I am a student so I would get that rate and just starting to collect “real” gear) and wait for the conference to come around next year when I will be a little more knowledgeable. I am afraid it would feel like I was sitting in a Greek conference and everyone is speaking a different language at this point. Does the conference come to Orlando every year? Thanks so much for any input!!

    1. Adena – PSW would be an incredible motivational tool first time out but I would definitely make sure I had a NAPP membership and added Kelby Training to it. You will have a broad range of training videos that will assist you immensely.
