Some Last Minute Photoshop World Conference Stuff!

by Scott Kelby  |  3 Comments

We’re just a week away from Photoshop World kicking off, so here’s a bunch of PSWorld stuff!

Get Our New Completely Redesigned Photoshop World Conference App
I gotta hand it to our App developer Shawn Welch, he totally nailed this App update! If you’re going to Photoshop World, this App is indispensable — it lets you do everything from assemble your custom class schedule, to finding vendors on the Expo floor, to learning about every instructor, finding your way to class, and a whole lot more!  Available FREE on the App store for iPhone and iPad. (Great job Shawn!)

Big Electric Cat is Rockin’ Photoshop World!
My band “Big Electric Cat” (fronted by the amazing Kalebra Kelby) is playing the Photoshop World Private Attendee Party on Wednesday night at B.B. Kings Bar & Grill. If you don’t have your tickets yet, call 1-800-738-8513 and grab a couple before it’s sold out!

Here’s what you missed last time (but you don’t have to miss it in Orlando!)
At the end of the conference, we have a big together for all the attendees and instructors as we recap an incredible week, and our video crew puts together four short clips, one for each day), and they’re a great way to really see what Photoshop World is all about. I’m posting the four here (they’re very short — less than 2 minutes each I believe) :

Above: Highlights from the pre-conference workshops, the day before the conference starts.

Above: It’s Day 1 of our Election Year theme (That’s not really Sarah Palin. It’s an impresonator just for laughs, but she was so spot-on that it freaked some people out. Here’s the keynote, the private party, the Expo, classes are more!)

Above: Day 2: It’s portfolio reviews, live shoots, food shoots, lighting, more classes, Westcott’s amazing “Shoot Offs” with live models on the show floor, the Expo floor, and the occasional zombie.

Above: Day 3′s video includes a peek at Dave Black’s incredible live shoot with an Olympic Gold Medal gymnast, more live shoots, a whirlwind tour of the Expo floor; the panelists for the “Art of Digital Photography” nighttime panel; and a hint of what’s in-store at Midnight Madness.

Is it too late to sign-up?
Heck no! It’s not too late to join us next week in Orlando for three days that will absolutely blow your mind! There are seven different tracks running all three days, and whether you’re into Photoshop, Graphic Design, Lighting, Photography, Lightroom, or the business side of it all, there are tons of class (and tons of fun) waiting for you next week in Orlando.

Thousands of people from around the world will be there — so, where will you be the when world’s best instructors take the stage next week? I hope you’re right there with us for an experience you’ll never forget!

Here’s the link: photoshopworld.com — this is the year! You’re going! :)

I’ll see you there!

How ’bout a Free Expo Pass for Photoshop World Orlando?

by Scott Kelby  |  5 Comments

Hi Gang: Sorry for the late post. I’ve really got nuthin’. Oh….wait….how about a FREE Expo-only Pass for the upcoming Photoshop World Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida?

You can visit the show floor either day:

> Thursday, April 18
> Friday, April 19

If you’ve never been to our Expo floor, it is truly awesome! There are lots of classes running on the Expo floor; tons of demos and special expo-only pricing on gear; Adobe will be there (along with Photoshop Product Managers and Engineers), and bring your camera because the folks from Westcott lighting are partnering with Adobe to bring a live shooting workflow experience to the Expo floor where you can try out their Lighting gear during a LIVE shoot with different models in different scenes (it’s the hit of the show floor) and then post-process the images right there and then at Adobe’s booth right next door.

Lots of vendors, lots of cool stuff to see and learn (there are two theaters with free classes going all day), and totally lots of fun! Best of all — it’s free (if you reserver for your free tickets now, in advance).

Just sign-up now for your free Expo-only pass (good for two admissions) right here.

The Full “Philly” Experience

by Scott Kelby  |  14 Comments

Man, did I trash my diet in Philly or what!!!!

First, we had a awesome day! Philadelphia was the first city on my nationwide tour, and the nearly 500 photographers who came out Wednesday could not have been more welcoming or friendly. Now, onto the important stuff — incredible Philly food! ;-)

My buddy John Geliebter (shown above left with me) took Brad and I out to his favorite cheesesteak dive “Tony Luke’s” in South Philly (seen above). Total dive (and I mean that as a compliment), and there I experienced the magical healing power of the best Philly Cheesesteak I’ve had, because when I woke up Wednesday morning my Bronchritis was gone and I felt great!

I took your advice!
I asked here on the blog for suggestions where to eat while I’m there and so many folks mentioned DiNic’s in the Reading Terminal (right across the street from the convention center) that we went there for our seminar lunch break (I had the Roast Pork with Sharp Provolone and Broccoli Rabe — absolutely delicious!). Next time I’m in Philly, I will hit “Steve’s Prince of Steaks” (highly recommended by readers) and I will stop by either Pat’s or Genos just to get the Philly Experience, but when it comes to chow; Tony’s and DiNic’s totally rocked it this trip!

We just added TWO MORE CITIES!
Come out and spend the day with me in:

Chicago on April 30th
Seattle on May 23rd
Los Angeles on May 24th

Seats are filled on a first-come, first served basis, so come snag yours right now (it’s only $99 for the full day; just $79 if you’re a NAPP member). Here’s the link.

OK, let’s switch gears!
Today I’m taping a class with the incredible Tim Wallace (famous UK-based automotive photographer) on lighting and shooting car interiors (Tim’s doing the teaching, I’m doing the shooting. Geesh, from one pressure cooker to the next). Below: here are some scenes from the class Tim just taped this week for Kelby Training Online on how to photograph motorcycles (photos by Erik Kuna).

Above: Behind the scenes shots from Tim’s new online class on photographing motorcycles

Above: More behind the scenes shots (photos by Erik Kuna)

I’ll be sharing some shots from our taping today with Tim over on my Twitter account, and my Facebook page.

Thanks again to all the great folks in Philly who came out to my  seminar, and who made me feel so welcome (and thanks to everybody who came up with Philly restaurant suggestions. Well, now I’m back at home eating right, but that sure was fun!) Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and we’ll see you back here on Monday.

Cheers, —Scott

Shooting An Album Cover from Concept to Finish

Big thanks to both Scott and Brad for inviting me back to be the guest blogger this week!

This past September I was hired by Eleven Seven Music to photograph and create the album artwork for heavy metal band Drowning Pool’s new album, “Resilience.” I was presented with a great opportunity to produce work for the band that would not only showcase them in a dynamic new way, but also push new personal boundaries within my work and challenge me to create something exceptional. I’m Calling in Sick :(

by Scott Kelby  |  21 Comments

I’ve had a really low-level cold for about 10-days now but on Sunday it decided to move things up a notch, to full blown Bronchitis, so on Monday I went to the doctor, he gave me a shot (ouch!), and some medicine, and a Philly Cheesesteak (OK, he didn’t’ give me that, that I’m getting tomorrow in Philly), so I spent the day at home resting, drinking lots of water and generally looking like the pup you see above.

I’m OK, but I don’t have anything too exciting for today’s blog post (written on Monday night, cough-couch), so I’m calling in sick. Still looking forward to seeing everyone at my Shoot Like a Pro seminar in Philly on Wednesday (over 400 photographers are already signed up for the day), but when you see me, you probably shouldn’t shake my hand unless you want to look like this doggie, too.

Have a healthy Tuesday everybody. :-)
