Scenes from Pre-Conference Day at Photoshop World Orlando

by Brad Moore  |  2 Comments

Hey gang, Brad here with a few shots from our day of pre-conference workshops at Photoshop World Orlando. I’ll be sharing photos from Photoshop World here throughout the week every chance I get. No guest blogger or Free Stuff Thursday this week since we’ll be sharing news and events from the conference!

Of course, there was plenty of fun to be had at the Real World Concert Photography workshop with Alan Hess and Scott Diussa (and Big Electric Cat, who performed for the class and will be performing at tonight’s After Hours Party!)

Corey Barker talked about all things Channels, Selections, and Masks.

RC Concepcion helped people prep for the ACE Exam

Guy Kawasaki and Shawn Welch talked self-publishing in their APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur workshop

Dave Black tackled Lightpainting 101 with live models and various sets

And we ended the day with the Poolside Meetup, where attendees and instructors had a chance to mingle and get to know each other before the start of the conference!

Check back here after the opening Keynote for more image from Photoshop World Orlando!

BREAKING NEWS: Announcing our “Lightroom 5 Beta Launch Center”

by Scott Kelby  |  8 Comments

Lightroom 5 Beta is here!
That’s right — Adobe released a free downloadable Beta version of Lightroom 5 and I gotta tell ya — it SO rocks!!!!

Our launch center, produced by the National Assn. of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) has videos from us on all the new features, so I  won’t  spoil it for you here, but Adobe really moved Lightroom a big step forward with this release with some killer stuff for the Develop Module (hint: including a “real” healing brush), and they ticked a few key things off our wish list in the Slideshow and Books module too that make a big difference (among a host of tweaks, enhancements and improvements throughout).

Here’s the link to our Lightroom 5 Beta Learning Center — and there’s a direct link there to download the Lightroom 5 Beta version.

So, I Hired a Portfolio Consultant….

by Scott Kelby  |  17 Comments

Yes, there are portfolio consultants, and I found an awesome one!
My friend Jason Joseph turned me on to her work and after listening to her doing a guest-spot on a podcast; then checking out her Web site (link), and eventually talking with her on the phone, I was convinced she could really help me, and she already has.

Her name is Stella Kramer, and even though we just started working together, I can’t tell you how much I learned from just our first hour working together. I took a whole page of notes, but what I learned was far beyond just tweaking my portfolio. Really just an eyeopening, enlightening, and fascinating look into a different side of the business (I’ve got to get her to write a guest blog one day). Anyway, one of the first things she proposed for me was to separate out my sports photography into a separate site, which I did (that’s it shown above).

Here’s the link.

I created this new sports portfolio over at Squarespace.com using one of their built-in templates (they have really cool layouts) and it’s linked directly into my SmugMug.com portfolio (since the two companies have an alliance  — note the little SmugMug logo on the left side under my navigation).

Anyway, while my new sports portfolio site isn’t quite complete yet, (but hey…it’s a start)
Lot’s more work to do with Stella moving forward including the art of sequencing the images and a wide range of stuff but this was at least one of my homework assignments from her, so I’m on my way.

Let me know what you think of the new layout. Hope you guys have a great Monday — I’m off to Photoshop World! Hope I see you there. :)
