What’s New in my New Lightroom 3 Book

I’m happy to announce that my “Lightroom 3 book for Digital Photographers” is already on press, and should be in bookstores very soon, but one of the things people ask most is “What’s different in your new book, from the old Lightroom 2 book?” (which is the world’s #1 bestselling book on Lightroom).

Of course, I included all the new important Lightroom 3 features in the major update of the book, but I also added some other really important things to take the new version of this book to a whole new level. I did a short video (below) with all the new stuff, and I hope you’ll take just a moment and check it out.

You can pre-order the book, and be among the first to get yours, at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, KelbyTraining.com, or wherever cool Lightroom books are sold.

  1. Looks well worth picking up. I was just looking at my book shelf here in my office, wondering what to do with the original Lightroom, Lightroom 2, PS CS2, CS3 & CS2 books!

Maybe reason enough to take the plunge and pick up an iPad, then start reading the books electronically!

Nice work, Scott. I’m really excited about LR3, especially the noise reduction and lens profiled corrections, so looking forward to reading this latest incarnation of your Lightroom series, especially how you’ve adapted your 7-Point System.

I loved the CS3-centric version you released and even though I’m using CS5, still regularly refer to it. I’ll be interested to see how you’ve now integrated this into LR.

  2. Will it be available in Kindle or iBook format?

I repurchased your 3 digital photo books in Kindle format as I find it better to have them always with me on my iPhone / iPad

I was going to pr order the book through your recent email and then found the postage to the UK would be nearly the same price as the book itself.

  3. A big plus one for iBooks availability. Technique books are perfect for the iPad, and while I can’t see myself replacing the 20 kelby books I own on paper already, I am certain that I would rather have the future releases in the iBooks format.

  4. Just pre-ordered my copy of your new book over at Kelby Training. I have no doubt it will be awesome. Also, btw, I had a sneak peek of the new HDR software from Nik last night, demonstrated in Lightroom 2. Would love to hear your take on it.

    1. Just a reminder to anyone considering ordering Scott’s new book or any book/book bundle from Kelby Training, don’t do what I did and forget to put in the code “MYSTERY” at checkout, or you’ll miss out on the free Kelby Classics Grab Bag. I’m kicking myself now!

  5. Just when I thought I could resist! I’m a sucker for those promo videos every time.

It looks like you’ve really thrown in some great stuff so I’ve jumped over to Kelby Training and hit the ‘ol preorder button. I hope they start shipping soon.

      1. Great! Thanks for the reply.

Since everyone seems to be asking about ebook format for their iPads, can you let us know how the iPad kelbytraining.com app is going? I’m assuming you have a lot of reencoding for h.264 to do…

      2. Yup, it would be nice if kelbytraining.com could work on the iPhone / iPad like lynda.com does

      3. Great fan of the books. I echo other’s wish for ipad functionality. Any news on your post back in April?

  6. Scott: is the reason you didn’t link to Amazon.com because I can’t pre-order it there yet? I didn’t see it when I just went to the site.
However… my iPad should show up in 2weeks. Maybe I could just get it in iBook format from the iTunes store? Please!!

  7. I loved your Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2 books. I love tethered shooting and I’m excited about the gray card addition for the LR3 book. I used the card from the CS4 book on some of my shoots and it saved time and my butt a number of times in color correction.
Now that I think about it… is there a Ps CS5 book or a CS5 Down and Dirty Tricks on the horizon?

  8. I pre-ordered mine as well. I’m pretty confident with LR2 but it’s always an outstanding idea to constantly review and continue learning new techniques that you may not have picked up in the past.

You forgot to mention one of the coolest parts of your offer Scott!! FREE PRESETS!!! Matt Kloskkowski has made some really excellent ones on his lightroomkillertips.com web site and I can’t begin to tell you how much I use them in my workflow!!!

Thanks for everything Scott! You have really taken this fabulous hobby of mine that allows me to record my families life and helped make it a TON more enjoyable!

  9. Throw me in to the want it in Kindle or (better yet) iPad format. My bookshelves are getting full and I want the convenience provided by my iPad.

    Keep up the good work!

  10. Hey Scott,

Is this book going to have a limited release spiral wire bound like the CS4 book did? You also count me in on the ipad/Kindle ebook version also… Just love that iPad.

  11. Congrats on a what it looks like a winner
Would it be available on digital form (iPhone, iPad, Kindle)?
Thanks and keep up the good work

  12. Just pre-ordered the book – really looking forward to an iPad option. Like everyone, I’m anxious to see the Kelby Training iPad app, similar to Lynda.com (which ROCKS).

  13. Ordered it as soon as it became available and is eagerly waiting for its arrival. If it is a good as version 2, you have another winner !!!
Keep up the great work !!
