Guest Blog Submission Guidelines

MAKE SURE YOU BOOKMARK THIS PAGE, SAVE THIS LINK, OR DO WHATEVER YOU NEED TO DO TO MAKE SURE YOU CAN REFER BACK TO THIS WHEN YOU’RE READY TO PREPARE YOUR POST.

Thanks for confirming your submission date! Don’t forget to mark it on your calendar as well. When you have all of your files ready to submit, place them in a folder with your name on it, and upload that folder (or a .zip file of the folder) to Dropbox. You can submit any time before your deadline, please just make sure you don’t miss it. You will receive an email reminder one week out from the deadline, as well as a text 24 hours before the deadline if you opted in for that reminder.

Here are the formatting and submission guidelines. Let me know if you have any questions.

TEXT

Word Count/Length

Your post can never be too long, only too boring! Make it as long as it needs to be without losing readers’ interest.

File Types

Rich Text Files (.rtf) are preferred, but Google or Word docs are welcome as well. Please do not send a Pages file.

Image and Video Placement

In the text file, indicate where you would like images to go by inserting the file name in the proper place between paragraphs. For video, insert the YouTube or Vimeo link in the proper place.

Title

The title of the post will read, Guest Blog: ________ Your Name.” Let me know what you’d like to be called here. Portrait photographer, commercial photographer, retoucher, graphic designer, filmmaker, creative genius, etc.

About Paragraph

I generally write a short closing paragraph at the end of each post to point people to your website and social media pages (“Check out more of their work at website, and keep up with them on social links.) If you have a specific bio you’d like me to use instead, just include it at the end of your post in the text file.

IMAGES

File Naming

Files should be named with their order number first, followed by a file name that is descriptive of the image (i.e. 1_name.jpg, 2_name.jpg, etc).

Dimensions

Minimum 1500px on the long side @ 72dpi.

Types of Images

Please include a picture of yourself (preferably horizontal) to be posted at the beginning of the blog, in addition to images relevant to the post. If the post doesn’t need photos to illustrate your topic, please provide general images or videos that can be used to break up the text to help the post flow well.

Captions

Anything in the images’ metadata Caption/Description field will automatically display under the image in the blog post. Include any image captions here. This field should be blank if the image does not have a caption.

DELIVERY

When you have all of your files ready to submit, place them in a folder with your name on it, and upload that folder (or a .zip file of the folder) to Dropbox. Naming your folder accordingly helps organize guest posts as we have multiple people submitting each month. You can submit any time before your deadline, please just make sure you don’t miss it.

Please send the text document and images as separate files. Do not embed images in text document.

A .zip file from a previous guest post submission can be downloaded for clarity if you’d like to see an example of any of this. The resulting post can be seen right here.

You can also check the guest blog archives to get an idea of what others have done if you’d like.

Thanks again!
