I just got word that Amazon.com has my brand new book: “The Photoshop CS5 Book for Digital Photographers” in stock now—-ready to ship (here’s the link).

Also, Barnes & Noble.com will have it soon as well, and it’s available for pre-order on their site.

I just got my first copy off press this week, which is really exciting for an author, and I hope you guys will have a copy soon, too!

Scott’s books have more value to me than my college education. I majored in graphic design, but now work part time as a freelance photographer. And I can honestly say that I learned more from his books than I ever did from any instructor in college. Almost kind of wonder why I even went. I still work a day job in retail

Oh my gosh, Ken is right. Just buy it, the money spent will be some of the best money you ever did spend. I have the CS2, CS3, & CS4 book and have pre ordered the CS5 book as well. Now I hope I get it soon.

Hey Scott! First off, I love the books, you do some really great stuff. Keep it up!
I pre-ordered your LR3 book from KelbyTraining back at the end of June and I’ve still yet to receive it! I was billed on 7/13. Someone in customer service told me it would be shipping in the next 7-10 business days, but that was already 2 1/2 weeks ago (7/20). How much longer!?

Hi Scott! I’m an avid follower of your work, member of NAPP, KelbyTraining.com (the best resource for photography training on the web!), and I own you LR3 book as well. I’m very famliar with LR and used it mainly for tips and to pick up a few key pointers.
That said though, CS5 is my introduction to Photoshop. I know that it’s a powerful tool, and I’m really thinking about picking up your new book. My question is what do you think the biggest key take aways will be for someone like me who really has a solid undersanding of LR and follows your 7 point system religeously, into Photoshop? I got so excited about the tool that I purchased it but now I’m having a hard time understanding where it fits into my work flow.
My enjoyment and understanding of photography and the post production tools have greatly been increased due to you and your team (THANKS MATT!!!) and I really appreciate all you (and your team) do for those of us who truly love capturing memories and fine tuning our craft. You guys are the BEST!!!!
PS: I’m a Canon user and would LOVE for your team to have a video podcast about Canon use such as you do with Nikons. Does anyone on your team have any interst in this?

If I may butt in, Photoshop takes over where Lightroom or Camera Raw leaves off. Masking and compositing, layers, filters, photo manipulation, type tools, painting, content aware, and dozens of other editing functions are done in Photoshop.

Thank you! I had no idea Scott & Matt discussed Canon’s on D-Town!
Based on what I’m hearing you say, Photoshop really extends your ability to be creative. This is the reason why photography is so interesting to me. I’m in a very linear career, in a very linear industry so it’s an outstanding way to try to tingle my creative fancy.
Photoshop is just a very broad, very intimidating application and I’ve never used it before CS5. I’ve had it since launch and other than the HDR tools, I haven’t used it for much else.
I think obtaining this book will build a solid base for me to begin utilizing the application. Thanks for the reply.

Scott’s book ‘The Adobe Photoshop CS5 Book for DigitalPhotographers’ (Amazon for a paltry $34) is the only place to start with books. Lesa Snyder ‘Photoshop CS5–The Missing Manual’ explains everything there is to know about Photoshop. It’s the bible and is a must have book. I don’t know how you could proceed to learn this beast without Scott’s book and Lesa’s book.
Matt Kloskowski has an excellent book I bought a while back and refer to it often–The Complete Guideto Photoshop Layers. No other book explains layers like this one–and you must know how to use layers.
I addition, join Kelby Training. You cannot find anything like Kelby Training anywhere on the planet. You can watch a segment of the lessons before you commit to a subscription.

I’m already a member of KelbyTraining.com! It’s a fantastic resource for getting started. I know they have plenty of Photoshop material on there. I haven’t had time as of yet to focus on that. I’ve spent the bulk of my time (been a member for about 2 months) watching information on LightRoom and photography in general. I have however watched the CS5 HDR training and that was absolutely fantastic.

Do you know if this book will be offered with the optional “ring binding” like the CS4 book was? I am going to order this book, and if not offered with the ring binding then I remember reading some posts from Kelby’s blog that I could just take the book to Kinko’s and they could do the binding for me (?). But if Scott was offering the binding I would rather just order it that way.

I’m assuming you are a NAPP member as well? I love the fact that you get perks such as Kelby Training DVDs with your order and everything, but if you’re like me, you’re on the edge of your seat waiting for these books to come out. So when you see it in your local Barnes and Noble before you get the book you pre-ordered it’s kind of a drag. Not to mention the fact that all the books and magazines come via US Post Office. They always ruin my books. Half the time I get them bent up. Scott you gotta help us NAPP members out on this stuff man :) Please

Does Photoshop CS5 do OOB? I know it can be created in Paint Shop Pro, but I have a MAC,
and couldn’t find a Paint Shop Pro for MAC.

I have recently purchased this bookand can’t wait to get to grips with the suggestions and advise. Inside it suggests that we can download the images used for examples. However when I follow the link suggested in the book I come up with error 404 (link not found). Any other suggestions please?

I ordered this book from Amazon and unfortunately had to return it twice due to printing faults.
For example between pages 204 and 221 some of the print was so light it was unreadable making it difficult to follow.
These were not the only faults in the book, unfortunately.
I hope this is resolved soon as what I could read was very informative.

Oh boy!!!!! I received the book at 7 AM. The time now is 4 PM (I suppose!!!) and I can’t get my eyes of it and my Photoshop screen in the PC. I even haven’t eat a thing!!! I have all of Kelby�s Photoshop Books for Photographers since the CS one, and each one is better than the previous. Now it has included in this book the Killer Tips published apart for CS2 (quite clever!!!) and lots, lots of new tricks and procedures!!! All I can say is: unbelievably fantastic!!!!
