And The Actual “People’s Choice” Winner of the Worldwide Photo Walk is…

photowalkFINAL

Astro James Lugo, from the Cebu City, Central Visayas- Philippines Photo Walk, who actually received the most votes for his image (above).

We had incorrectly identified the “People’s Choice Award Winner” yesterday as an image from a London, UK walk, and the error was totally 100% ours (just one of the many missteps we’ve had this year – more on all that soon), and of course, we feel terrible for both parties: Nicolas who took a great image and was announced as the winner, and Astro who was the actual winner this year, so we’re going to present prizes to both photographers (instead of just one), but the official People’s Choice Award for 2015 is Astro’s image seen above.

As you might imagine, we’re terribly upset about how this all played out, and my humble apologies to Astro James Lugo Lugo for the mix-up on our part, and to Nicolas as well. At the same time I want to offer my hearty congratulations to Astro for his wonderful capture — one that was chosen 2015 People’s Choice Award by photo walkers around the world. Well done, Sir.

All my best,

-Scott

  1. Missteps don’t even begin to cover it, Scott. I’m sorry, but I’ve been a fan and follower of your and Kelby One, Photoshop User Mag, and probably have 80% of your books, but as of this year I no longer have faith in your organization’s ability to run this event. I have run the Schenectady, NY walk for SEVEN years straight and I’ve lived with the mis-communications as that seems to be a part of the process (though I thought that after 8 years it would have been better not worse).

    – I’ve had to embarrass myself with my walkers this year because of the conflicting dates between the main site and the leaders dashboard and half my walkers never got their images uploaded and the fact that I told my walkers the prize was a one year Kelbyone membership (again, based on the information on YOUR SITE at the

    – Not only is that a TOTAL 100% lack of proper communication with the walk leaders (something that should not be difficult) after eight years.

    – There bait and switch on the Leader prize from a One Year KelbyOne membership to a “undisclosed digitial book” (big whoppie). (and trying to deny it even though it was in black and white on the prizes page prior to the event and then changed)

    – And now this debacle of the People’s Choice winner (you should give BOTH prizes IMHO).

    – The leader competition was mishandled and many of us did not even know the proper day or place to enter it as for as I can tell still no idea who won.

I am totally at awe on how such a simple event had consistently been mishandled. . I know the “spirit” of the idea is to get out and take photographs all on the same day, but let us not kid ourselves, the whole concept of the walk is also to promote your books and KelbyOne. Leaders need to be respected, properly communicated with and treated fairly. With out us there is no WWPW. I for one will have to think hard before I sign up to do another and I will be very open about why to my photo club and others if they ask why I am no longer doing it.

  2. I agree with Sean. But it is really getting ridiculous. This photo isn’t really a walker’s photo. It didn’t win any photowalk. It is actually I would say Leaders competition winner because it is posted in leaders competition group on Flickr… So what a complete mess…

    1. How sure are you Vesna that the photo isn’t the walker photo? Check that file attached if you are not 100% percent sure…

      1. 100% sure and now even more if it is possible. But it is possible that it is somebody being smart and trying to multiply his chances by applying in two competitions. For some reason I can’t see people choice competition. Maybe it’s a setting for leaders. Anyway what I could see is leaders competition and prior to posting a comment here I’ve sent message to Scott Kelby on facebook. I didn’t get any reply but it was read. I though I should get any reply since it was a friendly remark (something like: Thank you, we will investigate in next few days, would have been enough). Since I haven’t got any reply at all I though I can write the same thing here. As a result now I see this photo is removed from the leaders group on Flikr. But anyway I have sent Scott Kelby all the links so they can see what is really happening and decide what to do next.

      2. What are your thoughts on this?

      3. I don’t know what you’re trying to do but I just found out that you’ve been commenting about my photo with your allegations. I am the owner of the photo that won People’s Choice Award (photo above) and I never submitted that photo to Leader’s Competition because I am not a Walk Leader. Once again, I don’t know what you’re trying to do but I am hoping that K1 will not tolerate your act. Best wishes to Kelbyone.

      4. Hey, not trying to do anything, just saying that what he was saying and how he said it looked suspicious.
        Anyway, congratz on you picture!

      5. I’ve read your email, now I understand what you’re trying to say. If ever my photo appeared on the Leader’s competition I don’t have anything to do with it, I have a proof that I took this photo because my bestfriend took a photo of me as a documentation while I was taking a photo of this building. Thanks though, I hope Kelbyone will have all fixed as soon as possible. I’m wishing them all the best.

      6. This photo was in Leader’s Competition until I posted a comment here and I have email I’ve sent earlier to Scott Kelby to prove it. How and why it appeared both there and as a walkers photo I don’t know. I guess that is up to you to tell. I liked the photo when I saw it in the Leader’s group and I couldn’t see it in People’s choice competition probably since I was a Walk Leader. I liked your photo and that is why I remembered it. I really have a good memory when it comes to photos I like… At first I though it was a mistake made by K1 team but sadly now I see it is a whole other matter whatever it turns out to be the truth in the end…

      7. What’s the problem with that?

    2. Vesna it’s seems that you don’t respect the People Choice Votes don’t you?

This photo is from a group of Cebu City http://kelbyone.com/photowalk/walk/cebu-city-central-visayas-philippines-8/

And if you’re saying it appears in the Leader competition you should read the rules since the Leader has a option to submit the Best Photo of the group in Flickr.

  3. I don’t know anything about any PhotoWalk problems because this year I was unavailable for the walk, I was sad to not be able to get along, but times were very, very hard. However, last summer when my life hit rock-bottom through overwork and then breaking my camera-gear in an accident, out of the blue I had an email from K1 saying I’d won a place on Scott’s SLaP-Reloaded event in London (I’d run out of money & simply couldn’t afford to go, along with everything else). But you cannot imagine how Scott’s seminar lifted my heart & was like the first blossoms of spring after a hard winter – I really, really had a blast just being there, and, being given something that at the time felt like a real luxury among all my anxiety, my life started to get back on course (it is still tough, but I’m climbing not falling). Some might say it was luck, some may say it was God, but it picked me out of a pit and set me back on solid ground. So thanks again, Scott, feel some love and know that some of us out here owe you more than can be expressed – I only have positive vibes for K1. No judgement on anyone else’s opinion or experience, this is where I happen to stand & I wish you great peace through this turbulence.
