Happy Monday, everybody. Here’s what’s up:

HERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT LIGHTROOM’S HDR YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW…
I made this discovery recently, and it’s about how to get MUCH sharper, more color accurate realistic HDR images if you start in Lightroom, then jump over to Photoshop just briefly, where you change one simple setting — it makes all the difference in the world. I did a short video about it over on my Lightroom blog — LightroomKillerTips.com — this is really helpful if you make realistic HDR images.

LEADERS OF LAST YEAR’S WORLDWIDE PHOTO WALK…
Check your email — we’ve sent out invitations for you to have the first opportunity to lead a Photo Walk™ again this year. If you’ve changed your email address in the last year, or if for any reason you didn’t get an invite, just leave me a comment here and we’ll reach out to you directly to get you set-up. The official walk date and opening to the public to lead walks is coming soon. :)

KELBYONE IS DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THE SOLO GALLERY EXHIBIT OF RAMTIN KAZEMI
We’re getting ready to honor another KelbyOne member’s work with their own solo gallery opening at the Gallery at KelbyOne, and his wine/cheese opening reception is open to all KelbyOne members who’d like to join us in person at our studio gallery.

Ramtin’s gallery show will be:

Saturday, August 18 at 7:00 pm EDT.

We’ll be flying Ramtin and a guest to our Headquarters in Tampa, Florida for his show and a wine and cheese reception, followed by a live Q&A in the KelbyOne Theater. To watch Ramtin’s live Q&A, tune in using this link on Saturday, August 18, at 8:00 pm ET. You’ll be able to see his work and learn about his process and inspiration. If you were unable to attend any of our previous gallery shows, you can watch recordings of the Q&As for our previous winners in the Webcast Archives and check out more highlights from their galleries exhibits.

That’s it for today. Hope yours is a great one! :)

Best,

-Scott

For the past few months, we’ve been quietly testing a new membership tier for aspiring photographers who have wanted to join KelbyOne’s Pro Plan but the $19.95 a month was just a little out of their reach. Well, this new lower-priced tier has been such a hit, that now we’ve made it official and we’re starting to spread the word. Here’s how it works:

This new tier is called the KelbyOne Plus Plan, and this new plan gives users on-demand 24/7 access to stream more than 300 of our most popular online courses on Photoshop, Lightroom, and photography for just $9.99 a month. There are no long-term contracts and subscribers can cancel anytime.

At just $10 a month, that averages around just .40¢ a course annually. That’s a seriously incredible value, especially when you see individual classes being sold out there for $49, $99, even $299 for just one class. Also, this new Plus Plan has a world-class instructor roster, including Peter Hurley, Joe McNally, Lindsay Adler, Moose Peterson, Jeremy Cowart, Joel Grimes, Kristina Sherk, Jay Maisel, Matt Kloskowski, Terry White, Dave Black, and Kaylee Greer, among others (of course, I have a bunch of courses in there, too).

This new plan, at just $10 a month, with no long-term contracts, and the fact you can cancel anytime, it’s going to open the doors to a lot of folks who wanted to join KelbyOne but just weren’t ready for our Pro Plan yet. We’re really excited about where this going, and to be able to welcome so many new members to this level of education. I do hope you’ll check it out.

Here’s the link with more details, and you can sign up right there, too. Hope you do, and we’ll see you in class. :)

Have a great Monday everybody, and we’ll catch you back here tomorrow for Travel Tuesday with Dave.

Best,

-Scott

Here’s a quick look at what’s up on this glorious Monday in April:

SmugMug buys Flickr (What!!??!!)
I don’t know exactly what they’re going to call it, but I’m just glad they did it. Just in case you missed it this weekend – the folks at SmugMug bought Flickr. That’s right! Whoo Hoo!! There’s hope for Flickr at last! SmugMug is a great company, and a class act in our industry, and I can’t wait to see what they do with Flickr — one whose future just got a whole lot brighter. Congrats to the SmugMug crew. Well done, lads! :)

Our first instructor gallery show was a hit!
We were honored to feature KelbyOne instructor Moose Peterson for a solo exhibition in ‘The Gallery at KelbyOne’ last Friday night, and people were absolutely LOVING his aviation images (Moose, who is a print master himself, even gave a big shoutout to the folks at Bay Photo Lab for their big beautiful prints, displayed in the gallery using their Xpozer system). It was such a fun night, and Moose’s talk (broadcast live) afterward was funny, insightful, and often touching. We’ll be re-broadcasting the event, free to everyone, streamed on my Facebook page.

Who: Moose Peterson, with host Larry Becker
What: A talk with Moose about his aviation photography
Where: My Facebook page
When: Tuesday, at 2PM ET

Hope you can tune in – you’ll dig it big time.

Congratulations to all of our featured artists above, and high-five to those who didn’t win for entering the competition. It takes moxie to put your images out there like that in competition, and I have great respect and applause for all the photographers who took submitted images. There were a lot of great images submitted, which made my job that much harder, but I can’t complain — I got to enjoy all these wonderful entries during the judging process.

Special thanks to Joey Lopez and the crew at Lexar Memory for being our partners and sponsors on this contest. Make sure you all follow @lexarmemory on Instagram and Twitter.

Have a great weekend everybody!

P.S. Shout out to the awesome folks in San Antonio who came out to my seminar there yesterday. Really fun crowd, in a really great town. Next stop: Houston on Monday!

Rob Foldy Is Getting Married Tomorrow!
That’s right, my buddy, Sports Photographer, KelbyOne Instructor, Miami Marlins Team Photographer, Frequent Grid Guest, and all over SupaLuva Rob Foldy is settling down with a wonderful gal, late tomorrow afternoon. The wifey and I are heading up for the wedding; Brad “Braddo” Moore will be there  and I expect his beard to be in full bloom this time of year, so it should be a spectacular wedding. Congrats to Rob and his lovely wife-to-be Amanda! Please have Spray Cheese and Chicken in a Biskit at the reception. The crowd will love it!

I’m off to the Imaging USA Conference on Sunday in Nashville
I’ll be doing a book signing at Rocky Nook (publishers of my new book, “The Flash Book”) on Monday at 11:30 am. If you’re at the show hope you’ll come on by. They are in booth #767 (they’ll have lots of my other books for sale, too!). Also, look for Erik “DCATS” Kuna with me at the show as we chat about Disney Cruises, Amazon, Tesla and Space X as we walk between meetings. ;-)  Hope I see you there!

Oh man, this interview was a blast!
I was the guest on Steve Brazill’s “Behind The Shot” Podcast this week, and he is such a great interviewer, and we had so much fun. We dissected some of my shoots and talked about all kinds of stuff. Such fun – you can check it out right here (thanks Steve for the honor of being on your show. I totally had a ball!). You can watch it / listen below.

The Deadline for Entries for your own gallery showing is this coming Monday! Ack!
KelbyOne members —  this could be your chance to have your own private gallery showing – the Deadline to enter is the 15th of this month, so make sure you enter. Go right now! (note: contest only open to current KelbyOne Pro members)

Coupla last minute things:

  1. Did you check out Dave William’s post here Tuesday on shooting for stock photography? You should (here’s the link).
  2. Thanks for making my book, “The Flash Book” the #1 bestselling book in the Flash Category on Amazon. You guys rock!
  3. Congrats to the University of Alabama for their big National Championship win (said the proud father of a Bama student). #rolltide!
  4. If you’re a photographer that has been wanting to learn how to shoot DSLR video, watch this short course, this weekend
  5. Awesome episode of The Grid this week with LA-based Digital Tech Clay Rasmussen. He was in town taping a KelbyOne class on CaptureOne (to be released Feb. 7th). We talked about this “hidden gig” in the photography world. Definitely worth checking out (he was a really great guest!). You can catch it over here.

Have a fantastic weekend everybody. Hope I see you at Rob’s Wedding, or in Nashville Sunday or Monday, or back on the Grid on Wednesday. :)

Best,

-Scott

P.S. Here’s the trailer for how shoot DSLR video for beginners (it’s got a wedding photography angle, because that’s one of the biggest uses, but the techniques are the same no matter what you’re shooting. You’ll learn a lot).
