I am so excited!!! I just found out that Professional Photographers magazine (Published by the PPA—Professional Photographers of America), have awarded my book,“The Photoshop CS5 Book for Digital Photographers” their coveted “Hot One 2011” award (shown above), and it will be included with all the Hot One winners in their March 2011 issue (link)
This is particularly exciting for me because Professional Photographer is one of my all-time favorite magazines (as listed under my favorite magazine’s section of my profile page here on the blog), and because the Hot One award has such a great reputation in our industry. (This is the second time one of my books has won the Hot One award—the CS3 version of this same book won as well back in 2008).
My thanks to the Editors at Professional Photographer for picking my book! It truly is an honor.
Please excuse my ignorance about the American ways, is the PPA and the NAPP different organizations?
I did not know you could have 2 different professional associations for the same thing hahahaha.
And, of course, congratulations Scott, I will buy it as soon as I get my Photoshop CS5 (I use the CS2).
You deserve it.
Hi Pedro, PPA (Professional Photographers of America) has been around for the longest time and is strictly about and for professional photographers.
NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) is a much younger association — coming of the digital age and is about and for a wide range of artists that use photoshop to enhance further their work or creativity.
I hope this was helpful :)
cheers

P.S.
Congratulations Scott. Well done as usual :)
Oh Gosh, of course, makes lots of sense!
Thanks Rui.
Congratulations Scott! A great achievement :-)
Congratulations Scott, the best is simply the best :)

P.S. I’ve posted something earlier but it looks like it hasn’t gone through, if so I apologize for the duplication.
Hot One? Someone was kidding…
It’s the HOTTEST.
Congratulations! – Greetings from Las Vegas
Well deserved! Congratulations.
BTW the post showed up on RSS on Saturday, but waited til Monday on your website
Congratulations. This book has taught and is still teaching me how to make my photographs better. This recognition is well deserved. Thank you for writing such a great book.
You must admit, cool and kick butt here! Congrats my friend.

Wow! Quite an honor, Scott! Very well deserved. I am about 1/2 way through the book and I am loving it. I’ll be posting a review on Amazon about it soon.

Hi John:
Thanks for your kind words, and for the review. It means so much more when they hear comments from a reader, so thank you so much for taking the time. :)
Best,
-Scott
My pleasure, Scott. Just trying to give back a little, when you give us so much. It’s all about the love this year! :)
But how do you know I won’t write a scathing, 1-star review of it?! :D j/k
–John
Congrats! I bought this book as soon as it came out. I think its the best book on PS you’ve done.
Congratulations Scott! I love this book and it really deserves that award!
By the way, how is you new book coming along (Professional Portrait Retouching)? I pre ordered it and I can’t wait to get it!
Congratulations Scott! Your books just keep getting better and better!
Congratulations Scott!
By the way, on page 21 “though in Germany, it’s called Weinerschnitzel Mit Fischrogen Raw”. It’s a Wienerschnitzel. The best translation for ‘Weiner’ in English would be ‘Cry Baby’ and it would be rather unethical to cut those up into little slices … ;-)
Scott:
Congratulations!! Great Job on this one!! Yoy have a knack for doing some awesome books – Keep it up!!
I got a CS5 copy for Christmas [giving my CS4 copy away at http://www.nappmember.co.uk to a lucky UK NAPP member / Photographer] and considering how thick it is it’s actually really easy to follow.
Maybe in future do some more limited spiral bound versions of Kelby books ? ;)
Hi Scott & Gang-
I am fairly new to photography, but I am loving it so much. I own The Digital Photography Book Vol 1. and because I enjoyed the book so much I purchased Photoshop CS5 and got acquainted with this blog!
I have to tell you that this is the best photoshop book in the universe. I purchased 5 other Photoshop how-to books, and only ended up frustraded by the overwhelming amount of information that the books had to offer. Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher.

Congrats. I have it in Swedish and I just love it. I have learned A LOT from it so it’s very well deserved :-)
Thats really awesome! Congrats man! Ive learned so much from this series of books. I keep buying the new ones and giving people that are trying to get good at Photoshop my old ones.
Awesome job Scott!! Congrats on the award. I’m a huge fan of your books and own quite a few. I’m not surprised at all that you won the award. Your books are well written and very informative. Thanks for all you do!
Hi Scott ,
I love the way you present your shows as well as books.i do have many of your books which are very easy to read .I have bought all the 3 Digital Photography serie books and now have become a proud owner.
I had recently ordered the Adobe Photoshop CS4 through Amazon… BUt ALAS… i was dissapointed with it as it came pages that was repeated and thereby omitted a major portion of the some subjects.
It was indeed the dissapointment that the publisher was allowed such bad copy.
Hope you rectify this in your next issues.
Wish you all the best
An Unlucky owner of Photoshop CS4

Sorry i have mistyped my name .. its Salim Abdulla
I just finished reading this terrific and highly informative book. (It’s the fourth Scott Kelby book on my shelf). But on page 24 (under the heading “Editing JPEG & TIFF images in Camera Raw) Scott writes:
“But there is a big distinction between editing JPEG or TIFF images and editing a RAW image. If you click the Done button, you’re actually affecting the real pixels of the original JPEG or TIFF, whereas, if this were a RAW image, you wouldn’t be.”
Responders in the Adobe Forum are telling me that this information is inaccurate, that the real pixels are not affected. Can you clarify?
