When I was out in Los Angeles for my “Light it, Shoot it, Retouch it” tour, USA Today came by for an interview about what I take on the road when I travel. They did a cool little video where they show all the tech (and non-tech) stuff I travel with, and in the article they list everything I carry in my Think Tank Photo laptop bag.
The article, and video, are online now in Jefferson Graham’s “Talking Your Tech” section (Jefferson is a photographer himself), here’s the link to the online version of the story (and the video) is below. The story is in today’s print edition of USA Today in their Tech Section.
UPDATE: I got a copy of USA Today at the hotel this morning, and here’s how it looks in the print edition (see below):
Onto the Big Game
It was a history-making game last night as Saints Quarterback Drew Brees broke Dan Marino’s all time Single Season Passing record and it was amazing to be there to witness it. Got lots of shots of Drew right when it happened, and I’ll share some of those shortly, but it’s 1:50 am and I’ve got a flight home in the morning, so I’m hitting the sack
Even through the Falcons lost (Boooo), it was still a lot of fun, and I had a bunch of buddies there shooting the game, including Matt Lange, Michael Benford, and Chuck Barnes (among others), so the game was a blast, and the lighting for a Dome stadium, was pretty amazing. What a great night!!! (and I am beat!).
Hope you all have a great Tuesday, and I’ll be posting some photos soon!
Hi
looking forward to the photos from the game. But: pls don’t forget the post processing tutorial mentioned ssssooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeee time ago!!
thanks
Interesting that you use that 4″ tablet (according to USA Today! Look forward to seeing some of the pictures later today.
I can’t believe I beat Ken Tomey with a post! ;)
Can’t wait to see the shots! Saw you several times last night!
made me think of the embarrassingly funny scene in the Austin Powers Movie regarding an unpacking of sordid luggage! heheh!
Can’t wait to see the game photos also!
Scott, which Apple Compact Flash memory card adapter do you use? I can’t find an Apple one in the Apple store?
Never mind. I watched the video again and figured out how your doing it. (blushing)!
Can’t wait to see the game photos!
Scott, where did you get the Apple Compact Flash memory card adapter for the iPad? I don’t see one listed in the Apple store.
Hi Scott,
any anticipation regarding the 4th edition of the Photo Book for digital photographers? (I just saw in Amazon it’s coming out in March)
Saw that too. I was wondering when we’re going to hear the announcement? :)
I was also wondering what’s left for vol. 4 since so much has been covered in vols. 1-3. The anticipation is killing me!
I hope pros’ techniques for outdoor photography (like using scrims and flags) such as this by Peter Lindbergh will also be covered! I love the how-to sections at the end of those books!

I Pre-Ordered it from Amazon (in memory of my good friend William Beem) and it is due in March. 8-)
Watched it yesterday. Pretty cool how much “stuff” you can get into that laptop bag.
Couldn’t tell if you’re running Lion on your MBP or not. How often do you upgrade (i.e. replace) your MBP?
With history on the line, it was never going to go the way the Dirty Birds wanted. I’m happy you got to witness the event through your own lens rather than the TV – the atmosphere in the dome must have been insane! Can’t wait to see your pics!
Cool! I wanna know where I can get that little iPhone tripod! So cute :)
Hey Scott,
I watched the video and enjoyed it too! The game went good I see, did you see the Simpson’s touchdown flip video yet? :p if you didn’t *which highly doubt* here it is (http://youtu.be/yluXnYjp07U?hd=1).
Looking forward to the photos from the game. Matt’s a volunteer editor again? :p
Great article today, Scott. Reminded me of Mary Poppins with all the stuff you cram into that bag! :-) And what a kick it must have been to see yourself smiling back at you when you picked up the paper today at the hotel!

Congrats Scott, only one question: With all the gear you carry on tour, they only did the story on the computer bag? I guess they would have needed a one hour show for all of it! :-)
I watched SOME of the game (including the record breaking pass/TD) Looked for the yellow monopod, but hard to find. Looking forward to your blog post. I’d be interested in your shooting tech INSIDE the Dome: WB, ISO, shutter speed on the 400mm, Raw vs jpeg, WHERE you were or whether you moved about (end zone (which one), corners, sideline) and if used a remote camera too. I guess No Matt for upoading. ?Shooting for ?Southland? again. I couldn’t see you in the press gang shooting AFTER the game: Brees , coaches etc. congrats on the SI score and the “Talking the Tech” bit. PLEASE return some NAPP to Hawaii. alohadios, Jock in Hawaii
USA Today, wow Scott great job! I attended your Seattle seminar and thought it was great!
I don’t normally read USA Today, but I grabbed one at the checkout today out of curiosity. I guess my regional edition doesn’t have the Tech section. Bummer.
What the heck Scott? They didn’t put this on the FRONT PAGE????? :(
So, natural and real. Also the bag content is quite perfect. Not a fan of USA Today at all, but this was definitely a good contribution for them. At least we can know this is all truth.
Well I just so happened to need a new bag to replace my tired worn out computer bag. After seeing this segment I ordered this ThinkTank bag. I believe it’s going to work out very well for me.
