7-Bits of Last Minute Photoshop World News

If you’re going to Photoshop World, here’s just a couple of things to keep in mind so you have an insanely awesome experience:

1) Bring your camera
The folks at FJ Westcott lighting set up a series of live model shoots with elaborate sets, and it’s all lit, ready for you to shoot. It’s hands-down one of the most popular, and talked about, parts of the entire expo and the attendees rave about it. No experience with studio lighting necessary because they’re using Continuous Lighting with their Spiderlite TD-6s. You can just walk up and start shooting.

2) If it’s your first time ever at Photoshop World….
Make sure you attend one of the free “First Time Attendee Orientation” classes. I promise you, it’ll be worth your while. They are held Tuesday at 3:15 pm and at 5:15 pm at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

3) Make it a point to see at least one of the classes from these folks:
Frank Doorhof, Jeremy Cowart, Joel Grimes, Dave Black, Cliff Mautner, or Gregory Heisler, even if the topic they’re teaching isn’t what you’d normally go to see. These are some of the newer instructors, and they’re simply amazing. You’ll be glad you did.

4) We are streaming the opening keynote LIVE
If you can’t be there in person, you can watch it broadcast and “Share the love” with Nancy and crew (in the Morning Zoo!). Follow this link on Wednesday morning starting around 8:45 am EDT.

5) There a free Expo Pass For You
If you’re anywhere near Las Vegas don’t forget to go to the site and get your FREE Expo Floor pass. Lots of vendors, classes on the show floor, demos, and goodies to be had!

6) Look for photos from Photoshop World right here
Each day we’ll be posting images from Photoshop World here on the blog (mostly taken by Brad Moore himself), but of course, the conference each day doesn’t start until morning Pacific time, so I hope you’ll check back later in the day to see the images from the event as it unfolds.

7) Here’s what I’m teaching and when:

Wednesday 9/7:
9:00am        I’m hosting the opening Keynote
12:00pm      Photoshop Portrait Retouching class

Thursday 9/8:
12:00 pm     “Photoshop for Travel Photographers”
4:00 pm      Book signing for my “Light it, Shoot it, Retouch it” Book at the Peachpit Bookstore
10:00 pm      I’m co-hosting the incredibly fun “Midnight Madness” event

Friday 9/9:
2:15pm      Lightroom Killer Tips class
3:45 pm    The Wrap-up Rally

8) Go to the Tweet-up (even if you don’t use Twitter)
Nancy’s Tweet-up has grown to become its own “thing” at Photoshop World, and it’s an awful lot of fun (and even if it isn’t, you can send out tweets that make it sound like it’s the coolest thing ever, and everybody that’s not there is a total loser). ;-)

It’s outside at what I jokingly call “near poolside” and it’s totally just a fun hangout, but it is fun (most of the instructors will be there, and we all just hang out and chat with everybody, plus Erik Valand (my guest blogger last week) plus Brian Matiash and crew will all be there with a “pop-up studio”, so make sure you stop by. It’s at 7:30 pm at the “Bayview Court North” at Mandalay Bay.

That’s it for now gang.
If you’re going to Photoshop World, make sure you stop me and say “hi.” Have a great week everybody, and don’t forgot to stop by here and catch some of the action from Vegas! :)

  1. No Ken Toney on here with the first comment???? He must be too busy with all that #PSW partying ;-)
Wish I could be there but will have to wait to DC in 2012 when we have the UK NAPP tour de force contingent arriving :-)

  2. Undoubtedly one of the best lectures I attended was the one on night photography by Scott Martin & Russell Brown. I really, really, really hope that next year he will be doing a pre-con workshop on night photography — I’d be more than happy to come in a day early (I do anyhow) and pay extra.
