I'll be in Atlanta, Georgia next Friday (May 28th) with my "Photoshop for Digital Photographers" tour, and I want to make sure you're there, so go snag a seat right now (here's the link), and spend the day with me learning all the latest new stuff (including the new CS5 stuff for Photographers). Also,  I'll be coming in to Atlanta on Thursday, so if anybody's got any ideas on a great place to shoot, or a sporting event I can weasel a media credential for, make sure you let me know and we'll go a shootin'. Otherwise I'll be sitting in my hotel room watching How I Met Your Mother and Rules of Engagement. ;-) I hope I get to meet you in person in Atlanta next week! Can't wait!!!!

Remember when Adobe first officially announced Photoshop CS5 a few weeks back, and we did a week long series of free live Webinars on the new features? Well, we've archived those live Webinars (hosted by me, Dave Cross, RC, Corey, and Matt), and you can go and watch them now (or whenever you feel like it) absolutely free. We answered a lot of viewer questions live during those Webinars (in between cracking up), and we got loads of great feedback on them, so check 'em out if you've got a chance. Here's the link. Also, the CS5 Webinar we did last week with Dell, nvidia, and Adobe crew onboard is also archived so you can catch it as well (for free) right here. Again, my thanks to everybody who tuned in to the live broadcasts---it was the first time we had done something like…

Big News: We taking the show on the road as Kelby Training Live presents Joe McNally's Location Lighting Tour in London, England (for the first time ever), on Friday, July 23rd, 2010 and it is going to be just an unbelievable day!!!!! (photo above by Drew Gurian) You guys are in for a real treat, as Joe's tour has been playing to standing room only crowds coast-to-coast here in the U.S. and his tour absolutely gets rave reviews, and now we're bringing the tour to Islington's Business Design Centre, and he is absolutely going to rock the house. Not only do we expect a sell-out in advance, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that while Joe is there, either (a) He gets Knighted by Her Majesty the Queen, or (b) He gets arrested on a variety of changes, mostly having to do…

A big congrats go out to my buddies RC Concepcion and my Photoshop User TV Co-Host Dave Cross as they've both been honored by lighting company FJ Westcott with inclusion into their "Top Endorsed Pros" program. (The image at top is from Westcott's Top Pros site, featuring the work of some of the photographers already in the program). Click on the image to jump there to see some of their online galleries (or just click here). Here's how the folks at Westcott describe the program: The Top Westcott Endorsed Pros was developed for photographic education and inspiration. This elite group is comprised of talented photographers from around the world, each a master of his or her own creative specialty, including fashion, sports, wedding, nature, photojournalism, advertising, portraiture, food and travel photography. Most Top Pros share their photographic and technical expertise with eager audiences of…

First of all, thanks to Scott and Brad for giving me this opportunity. It’s always an honor to be a guest blogger here. And last time I blogged here, some amazing things happened. More on that later.

I wanted to chat this time about a growing concern I’ve had lately. I’ve been noticing from a few people that follow my work over the last couple years that seem misunderstood in their perception of who I am as a photographer or more importantly, how hard I’ve worked to succeed in the first place and how hard I’m still working. They seem to think that I’ve arrived at some magical destination in photography land where I just sit back and watch the jobs roll in. But more alarmingly, they seem to think the same thing is going to happen for them too. I see it all the time and it’s frustrating. It’s frustrating because they have the talent but they don’t have the drive or motivation. They seem to think that their amazing talent is going to do all the work for them. And sadly, that’s just not the case. Maybe it used to be that way but it’s not that way anymore.

I recently heard an assistant (24 years old) mocking a 30-something year old wedding photographer. He said,

Social Media magnate Scott Bourne had me on as a guest on his awesome PhotoFocus podcast on Saturday and I gotta tell ya---we had a blast. He takes questions from listeners, and one of the questions I loved in particular was one about a viewer who got a pit pass to the upcoming Indy 500 race, and wanted some tips on shooting the race. I couldn't have been more pleased with a question. :) As luck would have it Scott Bourne used to shoot motorsports for years (including Indy), and he and I just went off on this topic and had a lot of fun. Of course, we covered all sorts of other topics, everything from lens selection to Photoshop questions, and it was an awful lot of fun. You can listen it to right here (he has three different feeds on this page:…
